Skull and Bones Delayed, Creative Director Explains Why

During Ubisoft's financial conference call, the company confirmed that its upcoming pirate game, Skull and Bones,  won't release in 2018 but sometime between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2020. In addition, creative director Justin Farren took to the official forums to explain the decision behind the delay.

In the statement, Farren explained that the reasoning behind the delay was to "achieve our ambition to deliver the ultimate pirate game set to thrill players at launch and for years to come." This certainly goes hand in hand with Ubisoft's service model and considering fan reception to Rare's pirate game Sea of Thieves Ubisoft is most likely attempting to avoid a similar reaction.

Farren went on to explain that the team is "building a world rich in lore and stories, where you’ll come across memorable characters and have the canvas to create your own stories. Letting you set your own objectives and to take down your rivals on your own terms is key to the experience we want to create."

Farren has confirmed that Skull and Bones will appear at E3 and will showcase what the team has been working on since its reveal at E3 2017.

Skull and Bones is currently expected to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in the fiscal year of 2019.
