On Tuesday, September 15, Bloomberg posted an article claiming that the PlayStation 5 would be forced to reduce production of their next generation console. According to the article, Sony was running into difficulties with the console's system-on-chip, according to "people familiar with the matter."

Although it is likely that Sony boosted production since the outbreak of the Coronavirus, they were adamant in saying that production numbers have not been effected by this faulty chip.

In order to settle these claims, Sony reached out to GamesIndustry.biz, saying: "While we do not release details related to manufacturing, the information provided by Bloomberg is false. We have not changed the production number for PlayStation 5 since the start of mass production."

According to sources, Sony is planning to launch their newest console with up to 10 million units, though the company originally planned to only release 6 million before the outbreak. With more consumers staying at home, the company realized the potential to gain more buyers.

Although Sony is refusing to release official production numbers, there will be a PlayStation 5 event debuting tomorrow, September 16. Many fans are expecting this event to reveal the PS5 price, preorder and release dates, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

The console, as is common knowledge, will be released in two variants: one with a disc drive and one without, the one with the disc drive being more expensive. Once the pricing is revealed, Sony will get their answer on how many of their customers will pick up a PlayStation 5 this holiday season, and how many will be opting for the Xbox Series X.

The PlayStation 5 event will begin streaming at 1pm PDT on the official PlayStation website, as well as Twitch.
