The Next God of War Game Has Too Many Rumors

There are way too many clueless speculations about the next God of War game.

There have been way too many bits and pieces of information and rumors about the next God of War game, but none of those were officially confirmed by Santa Monica Studio. Over a year ago, rumors initially circulated that Sony was planning to remaster the first three God of War games for the PlayStation 5. Then there was a rumor about a God of War Ragnarök sequel that started in August 2024 when Santa Monica started working on a new IP. Later, it was rumored that it would be a totally different game. Then there was the news about the God of War Greek Saga, supposedly to be revealed at the February State of Play, which has yet to receive any official update.

Then, in January of this year, there were rumors about a new God of War game based on Egyptian mythology. A few weeks after that rumor, news surfaced that the game would be set in Greece rather than Egypt, where we'll be playing as a younger Kratos. All of these rumors lacked credibility because they were based on the Santa Monica studio being asked about them, and then they avoided the question. Many took that as a sign that they were reworking God of War, but it could simply be that they aren't interested in addressing rumors, which is something they don't typically do.

Rumors, on the other hand, are more likely to go unchallenged or unaddressed. According to the previous leaker who claimed that the next God of War game would take place in Egypt, it was only because Santa Monica Studio hired Middle Eastern actors. Egypt was merely a wild guess, and this hiring might have been for an entirely different purpose. Perhaps it was unrelated to God of War. Even more so, if we're talking about God of War returning to Greece with a youthful Kratos, that would definitely not fit in with any of the indications we've seen so far from the previous games.

For my part, I enjoy playing God of War games and frequently return to playing the Ragnarök: Valhalla DLC when I have some spare time. When there is a lack of clarity between the rumors and the updates, things become even more complicated for me about what to anticipate next. The February 2025 PlayStation State of Play starts in a few hours, and if the show doesn't reveal anything about the next God of War game, then all these rumors and speculations could turn out to be false. We'll find out what happens this evening.
