The XIII Remake Was So Bad It's Getting Its Own Remake

Microids hand the XIII Remake development to Tower Five.

Microids have handed the development of the XIII Remake over to French studio Tower Five, two years on from the game's disastrous release. Alongside a major new update, Tower Five is also working on a Switch port of the game.

XIII is a First-Person shooter based on a Belgian graphic novel of the same name by writer Jean Van Hamme and artist William Vance. Since its release in 2003, the game has become well known for its cell-shaded art style and graphic novel-inspired aesthetics. In 2020 the game received a disastrous remake courtesy of development studio PlayMagic. Poor audio, technical issues, and the butchering of XIII's iconic art style led to the XIII Remake receiving a hostile reception from both critics and fans.

According to Microids, Tower Five has "reworked the entire game from the Art Direction to the AI and added numerous technical improvements" as well as developed a new multiplayer mode and Nintendo Switch port. It sounds like Tower Five has remade the remake into a product acceptable to put on store shelves and those who have already purchased the XIII Remake will receive this major update for free on September 13th.

XIII Remake is out on Nintendo Switch on September 13th.
