Warcraft film recruits Saving Private Ryan screenwriter

Ever since E3 2006, talks about a Warcraft live-action movie has been circulating within the video game community. Back in the month of July, Sam Raimi announced he was on board for the project, and would be titled, “The Rise of the Lich King,” which was rumored to be released sometime in 2011. Since it has the words ‘Lich King’ on it, the film gives fans an obvious clue that it will be centered in Arthas Menethil, the once mighty and compassionate prince who was suddenly transformed in an undead lord, as a result of being corrupted by the runeblade Frostmourne. Though Blizzard has declined comments regarding the movie, Sam Raimi was too excited to keep his tight lips shut on the subject.
Raimi revealed some tidbits while being interviewed by MTV News. While the screenwriting process was already underway, Raimi added that he would like to stay true to the Warcraft franchise, and would try to “find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible." Raimi also divulged on the lucky screenwriter who will be responsible for the film’s script and plot. Robert Rodat, whose screenplay was nominated for an Oscar in Saving Private Ryan, will be on board for the Warcraft movie. Raimi is convinced Rodat is “the right man for the job.”
Rodat also wrote the screenplays for Fly Away Home (1996) and The Patriot (2000). So far, no information on the casting process was announced just yet, but very soon, it will. And since the Warcraft movie shows no signs of stopping at the moment, it won’t be long before we see it on the big screen.
