The Surge finished off its story-based content with A Walk in the Park the developers at Deck13 decided to provide an alternate take on the bloody technological world. Set in a western landscape The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented gives the players several episodes with new bosses, items, and challenges to overcome. Those who are looking for the most challenging experience The Surge has to offer will find a lot to love with The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented.

The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented has Warren traveling to The Peril Chamber under the view of the Supervisor. Warren must take on 9 episodes of unique challenges and defeat challenging bosses using whatever means possible. The entire environment has been designed with a western theme right down to the enemies. The former workers of Creo now carry scythes and tombstones and wear cowboy hats and tattered clothes. They don't act any different and will behave with the same patterns but it's different to see the former crew of Creo now dawn western theme weapons.

Obstacles have changed to reflect the western theme. Environmental hazards such as rolling minecarts, deadly heat, and other western-themed dangers pepper the environment. Players won't be able to kill their way through and must instead follow specific rules to progress to the next area such as defeating all enemies on screen and remaining stationary on a specific platform. All while collecting scrap and Lucky Coins.

Lucky Coins serve as continues when you face the boss, giving you another chance to defeat it. If you happen to die before the boss room you lose everything and cannot return what you've lost. Deck13 does offer players a choice before heading to the boss. If you do reach the boss room players can choose to leave with all collected loot but to face the boss must run through the entire episode again. It's a great option for players who felt their run was less than ideal and would like to back out with their collected items.

If you feel like the challenge isn't high enough players can modify the game using modifiers. These include invisible enemies, inconsistent energy, health swapping, and much more. The higher the difficulty the better loot and more scarp you'll earn.

Much of The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented is set to give players who've completed the core campaign more challenging fights. The combination of environmental hazards and much harder boss fights not only provides a great challenge but can give those struggling with the game's campaign an extra boost with additional scrap to earn. None of the armor truly standouts, other than the way it looks, and the weapons provided won't overshadow those who've completed the campaign or the DLC A Walk in the Park.

A major issue that The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented faces is direction. Since death carry's a heavy penalty you would assume that the DLC won't give the player a sense of where to go and what to do. Unfortunately, that's not the case as the player will have to guess how to solve each situation. Since some challenges drain health this can become vexing.

The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented is a great distraction for players who've completed The Surge and are looking for more things to dismantle. The unique setting and environmental hazards focus less on combat and more on strategic planning while the boss fights give that sense of intense 1v1 combat. It's not for everyone but those who loved The Surge will enjoy the challenges in The Good, The Bad, and The Augmented.
