5 Ways EA is Setting Up Battlefield V for Failure
What's happening to Battlefield V

One of the biggest franchises in the FPS genre is Battlefield. The franchise set the standard for destruction squad-based combat that emphasized teamwork above everything else. The franchise has hit bumps along the road like the horrible netcode issues of Battlefield 4 and Battlefield: Hardline's lack of eventful multiplayer options.
With Battlefield 1 the franchise had regained much of its popularity for trying something new and was released in a stable condition. Now with Battlefield V on the horizon, EA has shot themselves in the foot multiple times. Here are 5 ways EA has set up Battlefield V for failure.
5. Confusing Release Date
October is usually full of acclaimed released and this October has some of the biggest and mostly anticipated games coming. The most acclaimed being Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 releasing days after Battlefield V and their primary competition Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 releasing 1 week before it.
This is the same thing EA did with Titanfall 2 which released between Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and their own game Battlefield 1. Pushing the game to December would be ideal but it may be too late.
4. Poor Marketing
How much information have you heard about Battlefield V? For some strange reason, EA has focused their marketing to include a strange reveal with Trevor Noah from The Daily Show to keeping information from the public. Instead of choosing to share details with the public more information is being kept behind closed doors. What truly didn't help was when EA's Patrick Soderlund attacked and generalized the Battlefield community with the other infamous statement EA is known for "either accept it or don't buy the game" when talking with Gamastura.
3. Distrust in EA
2017 was full of disappointing EA announcements and actions. To name a few Visceral Games was shut down and their single-player Star Wars game was canceled, Mass Effect: Andromeda was released in a glitch-riddled state, EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2 was overboard with the microtransactions that caused Disney and governments to get involves, and that's only a some. Although loot boxes have been confirmed not to be part of Battlefield V and DLC will be free we've learned from the latest trailer that a heavy amount of customization options will be available.
EA has confirmed that microtransactions will be limited to cosmetic items and it would seem they're doubling down on this. It would explain why a British soldier had a sword in the first CGI trailer and the female soldier had a cricket bat. More cosmetics, more items to sell.
2. E3 2018
A lot of gamers have lost faith in EA. E3 2018 was the time for EA to show off great games and people were excited to see Battlefield V in action and get some details about the game. Of course, that didn't happen with more emphasis put on the mobile game Command and Conquer Rivals which has caused those fans much distress. Without anything exciting to latch onto Battlefield V faded from the E3 2018 spotlight.
1. Activision Blizzard and Treyarch's Constant Updates
Despite the community backlash from the lack of single-player content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 one thing that Treyarch and Activision Blizzard have done is remain connected with their fans. They've released new information, updates, and kept on the radar. This constant stream of information has kept Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 relevant since its debut and as the leading competitor for Battlefield V more people are aware of what Treyarch is doing than DICE.
Regardless of what you think about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Treyarch has been on top of keeping the gaming community informed. They should do what BioWare's Mark Darrah is doing with Anthem, answer questions about the game asked by the community.
