Here's an easy guide on understanding Causes, Treatment, and Advanced Uses in Book of Hours.

Maladies are distorted versions of soul fragments that appear when certain actions go wrong. They prevent the affected fragment from being used until the condition is healed.
Even though they can appear daunting at first, if the proper procedures are understood, the curing process is simple.
In some cases, maladies can even be used to gain a strategic advantage.

What Causes Maladies?
Maladies usually appear when interacting with contaminated materials or failing certain actions. Common triggers include:
Reading tainted or corrupted books
Failing to read a difficult book
Interacting with risky objects or events
Certain advanced, optional activities
A malady appears as a twisted form of a soul fragment. Until it is cured, that fragment remains locked.
How Malady Curing Works
Healing a malady always requires three elements:
A bed linked to the correct aspect
Enough aspect power to match the requirement
A beverage
Once these are gathered, the malady can be cured through a timed process.

Step 1: Find the Right Bed
In Hush House, every bed is associated with a certain aspect:
Winter, Lantern, Grail, Heart, etc.
To cure the sickness, find a bed whose aspect matches the cure conditions listed on the symbol.
For instance, a winter-related malady has to be treated in a bed designated for that season.
Beds are found throughout the mansion, each connected to a different wing, season, or history.
Step 2: Occupy the Bed
Before curing begins, the bed must be claimed.
Place any compatible soul fragment into the "Occupy" slot.
Once this is done, the bed becomes usable for:
Rest
Curing
Some basic crafting activities
A librarian can only occupy one bed at a time, so tracking the active location is important.

Step 3: Insert the Malady Fragment
Place the distorted soul fragment into the Restore slot on the bed interface.
This marks it as the target of the healing process.
Step 4: Supply the Required Aspect
The curing grid must contain five points of the required aspect.
This can come from:
A high-level skill
Memories
Seasonal items
Any object that carries the correct icon
Skills often provide the easiest source of large aspect values.
Once a skill is upgraded, its aspect contribution usually becomes strong enough to carry most cures on its own.

Step 5: Add a Beverage
Every malady cure requires a drink.
Any drink works
It does not need to contain the cure aspect.
Drinks should be poured, not used as whole bottles, to avoid waste.
A glass of wine, tea, whiskey, or even simple water is enough.
Once the drink is added, the cure process becomes available.
Step 6: Begin the Cure
Start the curing process.
It takes roughly three in-game minutes, one of the game's longer timed actions.
When complete:
The malady is removed.
The soul fragment is restored.
The bed remains occupied until manually cleared.
Occupancy can be cleared by assigning another soul fragment, effectively freeing the bed.

Tips and Notes About Bed Occupancy
Only one bed can be occupied at a time.
Switching beds requires replacing the soul fragment currently assigned to the bed.
It helps to remember which room the active bed is in, especially in large mansions.
Occupying a bed also unlocks limited crafting options for baseline recipes.
Tips & Tricks About Maladies
Although maladies are usually unwanted, they sometimes serve useful purposes.
Reading Contaminated Books
Sometimes, the best way to deal with books said to be cursed or harmful is to read them and then try to mitigate any negative effects. This allows progress without requiring any prior setup.
Seasonal Interactions
Certain seasonal events provide significant benefits but also pose problems.
For example, during the Numa season, dining at an inn could cause maladies, but it also left a strong impression as a kind of payment.
These events operate on a risk-reward basis, promising substantial benefits in exchange for a brief period of disruption.
Random Failures
Failures during reading or skill use may inflict a malady without benefit. These serve as penalties for risky actions.
Endless Water Supply Trick
After unlocking the well in Hush House, an endless supply of fresh water becomes available.

Add a Chore or Health to draw clean water.
This provides free, unlimited beverages.
It is useful for frequent curing without wasting rare drinks.
This makes late-game malady management trivial.
Maladies in the Book of Hours are a manageable aspect of the game's flow. A good bed, the proper view, and a drink – that's the recipe for feeling better, no matter what's wrong.
While they can impose penalties for errors, these systems can also provide exceptional benefits via seasonal or themed events. With the mansion fully opened and several beds available, managing maladies becomes easy and even strategically useful
