Before starting Chrono Odyssey, you need to understand the different classes, their weapons, and the best way to start building. This guide provides an overview of each class in the beta—Swordsman, Berserker, and Ranger—detailing their weapon options, playstyles, and recommended approaches for low-level gameplay.

Additionally, a brief look at the three classes reserved for full release offers insight into future expansions of your arsenal.

General Class Mechanics

There are six classes planned for launch, but only three are available in this beta: Swordsman, Berserker, and Ranger. Each class can equip three different weapon types and swap between two in combat. Defeating enemies grants weapon mastery experience, unlocking skill points for that weapon's tree.

Active skills occupy the left and right branches, while passives reside in the center. Early skill choices should focus on low cooldown, spammable attacks that consume class resources.

Deeper in each tree lie high-impact abilities with longer cooldowns. Synergizing buffs and debuffs—such as stacking whirlwinds before executing a decisive finishing move—yields the most excellent effectiveness.

Swordsman

The Sword and Shield is great for tanking because it reduces damage, creates threats, manages stamina, and has a hold-to-block function. A timed block works like a parry, knocking foes down and making you angry. If you block with a basic move, a counterattack will happen. This tool is excellent for people who want to take damage and keep enemies' attention.

Dual Blades deliver consistent, sustained damage through rapid strikes and powerful skills on short cooldowns. Threat generation can be increased or reduced, enabling both tanking and DPS pairings. Its block lacks a parry follow-up but still reduces damage and grants rage. Dual Blades offer versatility but should be combined with another weapon to cover crowd control.

The Greatsword trades speed for heavier hits and charged abilities. Rage is generated via a charged right-click attack, which increases in potency the longer it is held. Bleed effects and high-damage cooldown skills make this weapon suited for building debuffs before swapping to another weapon for execution.

For early beta builds, one effective strategy is to use Dual Blades as the primary damage source, switching to Greatsword for rage generation and crowd control.

Berserker

Chain Blades extend melee range and apply chill and freeze (stun) effects: the primary mechanic, Bloodthirst, grants stacking buffs that regenerate health and boost damage. Skills often cost health, offset by Bloodthirst regeneration. A right-click consumes all stacks to provide healing and rage. Chain Blades excel at ranged crowd control but may struggle with sustain at low levels.

Twin Axes focuses on high damage when health is low. Activating the Frenzied state increases damage and movement speed but at the cost of a continuous health drain. Skills can prevent death for a brief period, enabling aggressive play. Additional mastery options reduce enemy defense or damage, making Twin Axes valuable for group support.

The Battle Axe serves as the tank choice, granting super armor after skill casts, shield generation, and bleed effects. The right-click provides a straightforward block stance. Its skill tree also features a Whirlwind branch, rewarding sustained spins and bleed application with barrier generation. This weapon's balance of survivability and damage makes it a strong pick for extended engagements.

During the beta, Battle Axe offers reliable sustain any damage through Whirlwind synergies, facilitating barrier builds that withstand under-leveled scenarios.

Ranger

Different kinds of arrows can be used with the Bow, including Impact, Flaming, Frost, Poison, and Explosive. Each has its effects, like burn, chill, or area damage. Headshots do more damage, which stresses how precise you need to be. The Bow is powerful but not as useful at lower levels. Its versatility really shows in group battles.

The Rapier serves as a melee option with high evasion. Its skills are split between critical damage and damage-over-time builds. It does not consume class resources for basic attacks, making it a reliable secondary choice when resource management is an issue.

Dual Hand Crossbows deliver rapid, precise fire without charge times. Headshots benefit from multipliers, and the special mechanic offers an evasive maneuver while firing. This weapon excels in sustained DPS and remains a favorite for those with steady aim.

A recommended beta build focuses on Dual Hand Crossbows as the primary weapon, utilizing the Bow for crowd control. When resource shortages arise, swapping in Rapier can maintain damage without draining class resources.

Other Classes (Launch Preview)

Sorcerer Wields a Staff for destructive magic, an Orb for buffs and debuffs, and a Grimoire for healing, emphasizing group roles.

Assassin Employs a Saber for sweeping attacks, Wrist Blades for sustained damage, and a Musket for precision ranged strikes, blending melee and ranged tactics.

Paladin Utilizes a Lance and Shield for tanking, a two-handed Halberd for DPS, and a Mace and Shield for healing support, offering a hybrid role.
