In Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake, certain pieces of equipment come with hidden curses that trap you once equipped. These cursed items cannot be unequipped through normal means and require special actions to remove.

As you explore the land of Alefgard, you may come across such equipment hidden in dungeons, Secret Spots, or Sparkly Spots. At the same time, they may offer high stat boosts, but the negative effects usually outweigh the benefits, so it’s best to avoid using them unless necessary.

Remove Cursed Equipment

When you find yourself burdened by cursed equipment, you will need to have it removed before equipping other items again. To lift the curse, there are two main options available in the game.

Benediction at a Church

If you equip a cursed item, visit a Church and speak to the priest to undergo a Benediction ritual. This ritual removes the cursed equipment from your character’s gear slot, allowing you to equip normal items again.

Churches and Chapels are located across Alefgard, and their priests can perform this service whenever you need it. However, this process requires a payment, so make sure to carry enough gold when seeking purification in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.

Curse Researcher in Tantegel

You can also visit the Curse Researcher for free curse removal. Travel back to Tantegel town and look for him behind a locked door. To access his room, you will need the Thief’s Key.

Once you enter and speak with him, he will lift any curses you have without charging a fee, provided you assist him with his research.

Finding Cursed Equipment

Cursed equipment can be discovered throughout Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake, often located in dangerous areas or hidden within hard-to-find locations such as Secret Spots or Sparkly Spots in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.

While these items may appear valuable at first due to their higher stats, the curse effects usually cause significant drawbacks. It is generally better to leave them untouched rather than deal with the inconvenience of curse removal later on.
