Duke Nukem is far from dead
News by BrunoBRS on Jun 21, 2011
Or so the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, claims.
Here's some background: for more than a decade, 3D Realms has been working on Duke Nukem Forever, switching teams and restarting from scratch when they decided to change engines. And then in 2010 Take-Two bought the IP (Intelectual Property) from them and let Gearbox (of Borderlands fame) take care of it, with promise of finally releasing what had become the ultimate running joke of the videogame industry.
You might have laughed in the past, but now... oh wait. You're still laughing at me.
The game was finally released this past week, and has shown clear signs of it's disastrous development on its quality. So, should we all mourn Duke's death as a series and remember him for what he was in the 90s? Not so fast.
In an interview with Forbes, when asked about what could be expected of the Duke Nukem IP, Zelnick said he can't "really talk about it in detail but you will see future Duke IP coming from this company." This is most likely just a bland, vague answer that has little meaning, but it might give a glimpse of hope for the disappointed fans that, someday, the Duke will be back for good.
The interview goes on talking about other things, such as tablet gaming and Take-Two's take (get it?) on the Wii U, Nintendo's newly announced console, but most of it reads like what you'd expect a CEO to talk about their own company.
If anything happens to be announced, rest assured that you will be informed.
