When you explore the world of Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road, you will choose when to engage in battles, as encounters only begin after you speak to NPCs marked with battle icons.

Each victory yields specific item drops, and every opponent type has one main drop you can repeatedly farm. Clearing battles on the highest difficulty gives you the same currency amount as a training minigame, letting you gather tokens such as Gratitude and Steal efficiently.

Keep in mind that once you recruit a character, you can no longer battle them unless you remove them from your team.

Nagumohara Junior High (Outside)

In the area outside the school, you will find several NPC groups that provide different item drops when defeated. You can battle Idol-Lovers for Target, engage the Sumo Club for Dream, or face the Judo Club to receive Zeal.

The Swimming Club also drops Target, while the Lovestruck Teacher provides Gratitude. When you challenge the Space Laboratory Club, you obtain Dream, and defeating the Cheerleaders rewards you with Vitality. Lastly, encountering Northbrigher gives you Love.

Nagumohara Junior High (Indoors)

Inside the school, each floor offers a different opponent type. On the first floor, the Student Council drops Target, while the second-floor group of the Student Council gives Dream.

When you reach the third floor, the Manga Club provides Dream as well. If you access the school roof, you can challenge the Basketball Club, which drops Friendship.

Seaside Park

At Seaside Park, you can approach the Stumbling Drunk, who drops Friendship when defeated.

Nagumohara Hospital

When you visit the hospital, the Mystic Madam offers Vitality as the primary drop.

Hillview Terrace

In this residential area, you can engage the Resort Fanatic, who yields Friendship upon victory.

Downtown

As you move around Downtown, you can battle the Unwary Little Sister for Love, the Lady From The Diner for Vitality, and the Aggressive Delinquent for Zeal.
