Slay the Spire 2 Guide | Byrdonis Egg Quest Guide
How to hatch Byrdonis Egg and decide if Byrd Swoop is worth the detour.
Game Guide by Ornstein on Mar 15, 2026
Byrdonis Egg is one of the easiest early Quest Cards to understand, but it can still feel risky the first time you see it. You get it from the Byrdonis Nest event, and after you take it, it stays in your deck as an unplayable draw until you finish the quest.
That means the reward is good, but there is still a cost in the short term. If the next few fights are tough and you can't get to a Rest Site quickly, the egg can slow you down before it helps.

Where to Look for the Egg
In the Byrdonis Nest event, which happens in a ? room, you can find Byrdonis Egg. You have two options at the event. You can either eat the egg to get 7 more HP or take the egg and add the quest card to your deck.
If you want the quest reward, you should always choose "Take the Egg." If you pick the health option, the event is over right there, and you won't have anything to hatch later.

How to Hatch Byrdonis Egg
The next step is easy. Go to a Rest Site after taking the egg and pick Hatch. You can't also Rest or Smith there because that choice uses your campfire for that stop. The whole point of the quest is that trade.
You agree to one dead draw for a few fights, and then you give up one campfire action to turn it into a useful card. If you forget and use the site for something else, you'll just have to wait for the next campfire.

What You Get as a Reward
After the hatch is done, Byrdonis Egg leaves your deck and turns into Byrd Swoop. That reward is a colorless attack that costs nothing and does 14 damage, so it's easy to fit into almost any run.
The damage isn't the only thing that matters. It's because the dead draw is gone and your deck gets a free attack in return. When the egg first enters your deck, it looks bad, but that makes the quest feel much better.

Should you take Byrdonis Egg?
If a Rest Site is coming up soon and your deck can handle one weak draw for a while, Byrdonis Egg is usually worth it. When your health is bad, your path has no early campfire, or you really need a power boost right away, it is much less appealing.
However, this is one of the cleaner early quest rewards for steady runs because the condition is easy, the reward is easy, and it works for almost every character.
