If you have ever been in that hot mess of a Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 PvP match where you watch your teammates rush into certain doom one after the other or just fiddle around, not even helping to capture or defend the point, this Space Marine 2 PvP guide is for you. If you follow the advice here, you might end up feeling a little less lost in Space Marine 2 PvP matches, where you feel like any combat situation you face is impossible.

Play The Objective

First and foremost, your standing on the leaderboard means virtually nothing next to the team winning. I'd rather die heroically playing the objective and end up in last place on the scoreboard, having unlocked all the cool stuff than rush into every situation for a kill/death ratio and lose the match. If your mindset is about kills only, this might not be your Space Marine 2 PvP mode.

The Basics of Capture and Control

This mode is based on everything it has on one capture zone. The team holding onto it gains points, and a goal target of 200 is usually placed to win. First off, that zone is neutral. So whoever reaches it first flips it to their respective side and thus starts to roll in points. However, if both teams have their players inside the zone, then it's contested, which means neither will gain points until one side can successfully push out the other side.

The fight moves with the shift in the capture zone as time goes on. You will realize that there is a countdown in the middle of the screen; every time the time reaches zero, a new zone is marked, and it shifts there.

Whichever team reaches 200 points first or is at its highest point when time runs out wins. It's as simple as that—capture the point, hold the point, and win.

Teamwork Over Individual Performance

The thing is, it's all objective play, regardless of class or loadout. You can play well in a coordinated squad using voice comms or even solo, using in-game pings to communicate.

Use Pings

Remember these key points, and you'll have a far smoother experience and fewer frustrating matches where nobody listens. First, get familiar with your ping button. You don't have to be super detailed, but pinging an enemy, a capture point, or even a general location helps a ton when you're not using voice chat.

Think About Strategies

Know your class's special abilities, and consider how those can be used together with your teammates' abilities. Even better, know the maps inside and out to know where to grab ammo or grenades when you're in a pinch. And while the kills are important, capping and holding the capture zone actually wins the match.

Take Point and Hold

When you've captured a zone, sit tight and defend it with everything you've got. If you see the zone become contested, that means an enemy's inside-hunt them down or push them out. A coordinated team will always push together, contesting the enemy capture zone as much as possible to prevent them from scoring points.

Rotate Zones

Pay special attention when the zone timer hits 10 seconds left. This is because the next capture zone will be marked at that time. Ideally, some of your team should start making a beeline for it before the timer hits zero so you can grab it immediately and start racking up the points.

Play The Objective (again)

Most of the game's weapon and armor unlocks are tied to winning matches, not racking up kills, so you're better off prioritizing victory. It pays more in rewards than whatever the high score on the board may be. Your weapon XP is also dependent upon victories while having it equipped rather than just the kills you attain. Similarly, class achievements are counted based on what class you have active at the end of the match and not the one you played most of the game with.

Whether your team wins or loses often just comes down to whether you're willing to play as a team or run around trying to be a lone wolf. And if you're after battle XP, you get more for kills when attacking or defending a capture point than for random kills elsewhere. So, play smart, work together, and focus on the objectives.

I think Space Marine 2 does great by rewarding objectives over kills. While getting kills does help the objective, it ultimately captures zones that bring you your progression. So remember that this is a team game, and wreak havoc out there.
