The SWORD ART ONLINE series, its franchise explosion, and its transition into the gaming industry are something to withhold. To anyone who isn't familiar with it, it's a series where you'll feel the presence of high-stakes gaming in the world of virtual gaming. This guide breaks down Strea in SWORD ART ONLINE Fractured Daydream.
In this Fractured Daydream video, I'm sharing my thoughts on Strea, the first DLC character for the game and the only one so far to wield a great sword. I’ll also explain how to use her weapon and abilities to perform high-damage combos.
First off, I’ll keep this simple: I love Strea's weapon. Her kit offers everything I want in a great sword user. Even though she’s classified as a tank, she plays much more like a DPS, even more so than Heathcliff, which I think is amazing. Right now, she’s one of the most fun characters to play, aside from Yuuki.
Strea's great sword offers a variety of combo options, both on the ground and in the air, with more airborne potential than most other characters. Her most notable airborne move is her infinite combo, where she can stay in the air indefinitely, continuously swinging her sword—provided she isn’t hit and knocked back down. By jumping and holding the heavy attack, her sword glows, activating a sword art with a heavy swing. After two light attacks, you can hold a heavy attack again, returning to another sword swing, and you can repeat this loop.
Strea also has some natural combos: on the ground, you can start with a light attack followed by a heavy attack for a horizontal slash that leads into an uppercut. Hitting light four times results in four powerful melee attacks that finish with a downward smash. Another combo involves two light attacks followed by a heavy attack, which features a cool animation where Strea smacks the target with the butt of her sword before delivering a downward smash. If you do three light attacks followed by a heavy attack, Strea performs alternating horizontal slashes, ending in a spinning attack that hits multiple enemies.
For another jump combo, you can jump, tap the light twice, and then finish with a heavy attack. This makes Strea perform two aerial horizontal slashes followed by a diving strike, stabbing her sword into the target. You can also follow up this diving stab with more light attacks in the air, finishing with a heavy attack.
When it comes to her skill kit, Strea has three excellent abilities that make her a top-tier DPS. Her first skill, Strike Disaster, is a chargeable dark damage attack with a powerful downward sword swing. Charging it up to two times increases the damage and creates pulses around Strea. If you charge it while airborne and attack a target, she performs front somersault flips that hit targets multiple times, ideal for bosses or stationary enemies.
Chaos Dominion is my favorite skill in her kit. Strea summons dark energy and slams it into the ground, creating an AoE field that damages enemies and launches weaker ones. While fighting within this field, Strea gains a siphon effect, healing based on the damage dealt. You can also charge this skill to widen the AoE, though it only activates on the ground, even if charged in the air.
Her final skill, Demolition Storm, is a spinning tornado of melee attacks where Strea damages nearby enemies while moving slightly to affect more targets. Charging the skill increases its duration, and after charging, you can make Strea jump into the air to hit larger or airborne enemies. It can also be activated after light attacks on the ground or in the air.
Strea’s ultimate, Raging Blade, unleashes a series of heavy attacks, hitting all enemies in front of her. It’s best used alongside a fully charged Chaos Dominion so she can heal while attacking.
Her skill, Hollow Drive, is a taunt that slightly reduces incoming damage and significantly cuts down her skill charge times.
Overall, Strea’s kit is well-rounded and seems designed for a tank that wants to be aggressive, especially against bosses. If you don’t have the battle pass, I’d say she’s worth purchasing due to her combat advantages over other characters. However, as a tank, I believe Heathcliff is still slightly better because of his stronger defensive options. Strea relies more on a healer to keep her health up, as Chaos Dominion has a cooldown and doesn’t heal her constantly. Without that, she’s more of a DPS with high health and some damage reduction from Hollow Drive.
When tanking, the best strategy would be to activate Hollow Drive and use a fully charged Chaos Dominion—this way, you take less damage from bosses while healing back from your attacks.
