Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's release is just around the corner, and we've got early access to the game. The game has been a blast so far in PvE content, and we can't wait to have a go at the PvP mode. There's so much to explore here—especially the leveling and progression, classes, and how each difficulty system affects your rate of progress. This guide will tell you everything you need to know.
In Space Marine 2, leveling up isn't limited to just your character—it extends across six unique classes, weapons, and a detailed perk system. Here's a breakdown of how the system works and how you can master it.
What are the Classes in Space Marine 2?
Space Marine 2 offers six classes: Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, Sniper, Vanguard, and Heavy. Each of these classes has its distinct playstyle, and every class features a perk tree you unlock as you level up. We've got a guide that details what each class is like. There are 25 levels in total for each class, with each new perk becoming available as you progress through the levels. The perks are laid out left-to-right, meaning you need to unlock an entire row of perks before moving on to the next one. Within each vertical column, you can only choose one perk, so when you reach the highest level, you'll have selected eight perks for your class.
The perks are divided into four broad types: Core, Team, Gear, and Signature. Core perks mainly affect your weapons and ammunition, while Team perks give you buffs that help your teammates in co-op missions. Gear perks affect your abilities and often tweak how quickly they recharge or how effective they are in combat. Finally, Signature perks are the powerful abilities that ultimately define your playstyle. They are what makes each class unique.
How Do You Upgrade Your Classes?
To level up your classes, you'll need to complete Operations, which are three-player co-op PvE missions. These Operations vary in difficulty, and your chosen level will determine how much experience (XP) and in-game currency (Requisition) you earn. There are four difficulty levels: Minimal, Average, Substantial, and Ruthless. The harder the difficulty, the better your rewards will be. For example, completing an operation with minimal difficulty will grant you 630 XP and 35 requisitions, but you will earn even more XP and requisition from completing operations with higher difficulties.
While playing, you might notice some reward variation, particularly with the requisition and discovery of armory data. Sometimes, the amount of requisition earned may be slightly less, and the Discovery Armory Aata isn't always guaranteed to drop after each mission. This can be a little confusing, as the game doesn't have clear instructions on how exactly the reward system works, but your drop rates generally increase at higher difficulties.
What is Discovery Armoury Data?
Discovery Armoury Data is a special in-game currency used to unlock different versions of your weapons. This currency has three types, each corresponding to a different weapon tier unlocks green for Mastercrafted, purple for Artificer, and yellow for Relic versions. You can get these materials by completing Operations. Once again, higher difficulties tend to give better versions of these unlocks. Remember that you also need Requisition alongside Discovery Armoury Data to upgrade your weapons.
What Are Weapon Mastery Points?
Alongside leveling up your class, your weapons also need to be tended to. Each weapon has its own mastery points, which you earn by using that weapon in combat. These points allow you to unlock separate perks for your weapons. They give you more control over how they perform in battle. The more you upgrade your weapon, the more Mastery Points you need for the next upgrade. This system applies across all weapons and classes, so there's plenty of grinding if you want to max out everything.
What is Requisition?
You must already have an idea of what requisition is through its mentions throughout this guide. It is the base currency you will need to practically upgrade everything, and thankfully, almost every completable action in the game rewards you with it. It's not only used to unlock weapon upgrades and class perks but also to customize your character's appearance. Even after earning enough XP to unlock a class perk, you'll still need to spend requisition to activate it.
How To Unlock Class Armor?
You'll need to complete certain challenges to unlock new armor for your class. These challenges are usually tied to completing Operations or participating in Eternal War, the game's PvP mode. Like most things in the game, unlocking armor requires requisition, so expect to farm plenty of it as you progress.
While spending all your requisition on cosmetic upgrades and class armor might be tempting, prioritizing its unlocking and leveling up your perks is usually a good idea. Even on the lowest difficulty, Space Marine 2 can be pretty hard, especially if your team isn't fully optimized. By focusing on building up your perks and abilities, you'll put yourself in a better position to handle the tougher parts of the game later on.
