The new Indiana Jones game by MachineGames has been somewhat shrouded in mystery ever since it was first announced. However, we have now received some new information that should be good news for the direction of the game. Jens Andersson, a designer who worked on games like The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, has joined MachineGames as the Design Director on the still unnamed Indiana Jones game.

In a tweet from Jens Andersson, he explains that he has spent the last twelve years making indie games like Colors! 3D and Yoku’s Island Express, but that he has now been given the chance to work on this Indiana Jones game in a leadership capacity. Considering his experience and his gaming output, this man should, hopefully, be able to help guide this mysterious game towards something great. However, because of both his experience and MachineGames’s general development history, as they are the company responsible for the new Wolfenstein games, this title should be in good hands.

We still hardly know anything about this Indiana Jones game though. We got a teaser trailer in January 2021, but it was little more than half a minute’s worth of general Indiana Jones iconography, like the iconic hat. We don’t know what kind of game this will be, but it sadly probably won’t be another Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis type game as point-and-click adventure games have mostly faded from mainstream developers. Also, considering the kinds of games that MachineGames usually makes, expect action.

As a final interesting point, Andersson, in his tweet, explained that this whole situation is actually something of a personal redemption story. He originally moved to San Fransciso in 2009 to work on an Indiana Jones game, but it got cancelled before he got there. So, he now gets to finally work on the Indiana Jones game he was supposed to work on over a decade ago! Some fun coincidences are always great to know.
