Telltale Games Facing "Majority Studio Closure", Future Unknown
An end to an era, maybe
News by Grayshadow on Sep 21, 2018
Since the debut of Telltale's The Walking Dead Telltale Games has been the leader in narrative-driven experiences such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Batman: The Telltale Series, and The Wolf Among Us. Unfortunately, Telltale is closing most of its studio.
A statement made by CEO Pete Hawley made the news official.
"It's been an incredibly difficult year for Telltale as we worked to set the company on a new course. Unfortunately, we ran out of time trying to get there. We released some of our best content this year and received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, but ultimately, that did not translate to sales. With a heavy heart, we watch our friends leave today to spread our brand of storytelling across the games industry.
Telltale will issue further comments regarding its product portfolio in the coming weeks.
Many expected the news after Telltale let go of most of its staff earlier today. It's unknown if Telltale will remain operational with a reduced staff or will completely close down. According to Gamasutra the studio had 250 staff members and now is left with 25 as of now. It also has been reported that future projects have been either canceled or put on hiatus.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season is still set to release, with the second episode coming September 25th. No word if this news will change to predetermined dates.
