Few recent game mechanics have sparked as much debate as the 30-Day Limit in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Before the game came out, fans were worried the ticking clock would make them rush, skip important content, or feel punished for exploring.
Now that players have tested the time limit mechanics, Rebel Wolves director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has responded to the criticism and shared the reasons behind the design. Rebel Wolves does not see the time mechanic as something that might appear in every future game.

Tomaszkiewicz has not said whether it will return in sequels.
The studio plans to decide based on each new project's story and design. If a similar mechanic fits the narrative, they might use it again. If not, they will leave it out. This shows the system was made specifically for The Blood of Dawnwalker, not as a permanent feature for the series.
The mechanic was also designed with a specific target in mind. According to Tomaszkiewicz, the game was balanced so you could complete roughly 80% of its content during a single playthrough. The time system had a clear goal.
Tomaszkiewicz said the game is balanced so that players can complete about 80% of the content in a single playthrough without constantly worrying about time. The goal was to let you enjoy most of the game while still feeling some pressure from the clock.
Much of that anxiety started to fade. Players discovered considerably more breathing room than some pre-release discussion suggested. For anyone who still doesn't enjoy the mechanic, Tomaszkiewicz also pointed to mods as an option to change or remove the system.
Interestingly, the criticism hasn't pushed Rebel Wolves toward safer design choices.
Tomaszkiewicz indicated that the studio is already looking into other unconventional RPG mechanics. Despite the criticism, Rebel Wolves has not moved toward safer design choices. Tomaszkiewicz said the studio is already exploring other unusual RPG mechanics for future games. So, mixed feedback on the time system hasn't stopped the developers from trying new ideas.
The clock becomes more noticeable during optional or repetitive activities, such as trying to maximize every level or clear every shrine. If the system primarily limits that kind of extra grinding rather than cutting you off from meaningful quests, the mechanic can feel less like a punishment and more like a way to discourage unnecessary padding.

Alex also said the time mechanic should not take away from what makes The Blood of Dawnwalker special. He highlighted the writing, characters, and combat as the game's best features. He suggested that the time system is actually a smaller part of the experience than online debates make it seem. There could be a compromise between keeping the system as it is and removing it.
Alex suggested adding time limits only to quests where urgency matters for the story or gameplay. This way, the game keeps tension when needed but lets players explore freely elsewhere. For now, the main point is that Rebel Wolves is still open to trying new things. The time mechanic may still be debated, but the studio prefers to improve creative ideas rather than avoid them.
