Former Lab Zero Employees Launch Future Club
The studio will work on its own original IPs
News by Fragnarok on Sep 24, 2020
Following the interoffice implosion and functional collapse of Lab Zero, it became uncertain what the future held for those that had worked on Skullgirls and Indivisible. Now, 15 former Lab Zero employees have announced the creation of the new studio, Future Club. The company is headed by CEO Francesca Esquenazi. The team also includes veterans like creative director Mariel Cartwright, animator Jonathan Kim, and designer Earl Gertwagen. Most of them had direct experience on Skullgirls or Indivisible. The new studio will be an employee owned co-op, allowing more creative freedom and open communication when compared to Lab Zero.
Cartwright mentioned that Future Club is excited to work on their own original IPs. However, it is unclear if the studio has completely abandoned the old franchises. Autumn games had previously stated that they would stand by the former employees and “work with talented individuals leaving Lab Zero” for future Skullgirls content. However, it has not been clarified if that includes the members of Future Club specificly.
