In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the accumulation of Ability Points (AP) enables the enhancement of Materia. One of these will be awarded for each enemy that you defeat. Equipping material to your active party members is sufficient; they are rendered ineffective in combat. Unlike
Experience Points (EXP) are used to level up your characters, and Ability Points (AP) are used to level up your Materia. When completing the Brutal Missions and playing through the game on Hard difficulty, it is quite advantageous to have completely leveled Materia.
How to Level Up Ability Points
Using the AP Up Materia is an excellent and straightforward method for increasing your AP gain rate. You do not need to level up this Materia. On the contrary, it multiplies the AP obtained by the related Materia by a factor of 100.
If you want to connect two materials, place the AP Up Materia in a connected Materia Slot that connects to the slot containing the other material. Using an AP Up Materia allows you to twice the AP gain of the Materia to which it is attached. Some weapons and armor even contain three linked slots, allowing you to employ two Materia at once if desired.
Locations of AP Up Materia:
- In the Mythril Mines, at the end of a narrow corridor, just after Barret and Red descend the cliff after the Hooded Figure. The first time it is accessible is in Chapter 3.
- Completing Fiend Intel 2 and Fiend Intel 6 in the Corel Region can unlock the Combat Simulator Challenge "Corel Battle Intel: Badlands Beasts" during or after Chapter 9.
- Complete the Combat Simulator Challenge "Nibel Battle Intel: Chthonian Rhondo," which may be unlocked during or after Chapter 11 by defeating "Mako-Cursed Abomination Fiend Intel" and "Stone-Cold Spitter Fiend Intel" in the Nibel Region. After finishing the Main Story, complete the "Six-Person Bouts: Ululating Quartet" task at the Musclehead Colosseum.
Complete Chadley's Combat Simulator
When looking for AP, Chadley's Combat Simulator is a fantastic choice. The fastest way to level up in the simulator is to combat multiple opponents at once. Unfortunately, this method has one limitation: It can only be used to equip Materia by characters who are actively participating in the combat.
Musclehead Colosseum Mission
The Colosseum fights include several huge group confrontations and can be replayed as much as you want. Taking on fights with a lot of enemies, like "Devil-May-Care Desperados," will let you farm AP faster. You in "Devil-May-Care Desperados" have the option to quit or reset the challenge once they defeat the bandits in the first round if they want to farm AP more quickly and efficiently.
The Chocobo Armband (Chapter 11)
"Esoteric Secrets" is a side quest that you can access starting with Chapter 11. The Chocobo Armband, a strong armor that boosts the attack strength of equipped Materia by a factor of three, is the reward for doing this side assignment. This Armband allows you to improve their Materia and acquire AP substantially faster.
Post-Game Bonus
All AP gain is tripled after beating the main game. This allows you to level up their Materia at a significantly faster rate while taking on any remaining side quests and challenges. If you want to make things easier for yourself before going into Hard Mode, maxing your Materia before starting a new run is a good idea.
