GTA 6 Marketing Shifts Focus as New Reports Reveal More About the Launch
Rockstar's latest moves suggest a slower marketing rollout, while new retailer listings and fresh reports paint a clearer picture of what you might expect before and after GTA 6 launches.

Rockstar has officially kicked off GTA 6's marketing campaign, but not in the way many people expected. If you were waiting for Trailer 3 to arrive alongside pre-orders, that moment never came. Instead, the studio opened pre-orders, revealed the game's cover art, confirmed the $80 price tag, showcased several new screenshots, and introduced the Ultimate Edition without showing any new gameplay.
Instead of using the same strategy as Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar chose to focus on the game's editions and pricing before revealing more footage. That decision has changed expectations about when you'll actually see Trailer 3.

With pre-orders already live, it now looks increasingly likely that the next trailer is still some time away.
The move suggests Rockstar is focusing on development before shifting more resources toward marketing, giving the team extra time to polish the game before showing another major gameplay showcase. Based on the current rollout, Trailer 3 may not arrive until August, although Rockstar has built a reputation for making unpredictable marketing decisions.
That strategy could be advantageous over time. If Rockstar had released Trailer 3 alongside the announcement of the $80 base edition and the lack of a physical version, much of the excitement surrounding the new footage might have been overshadowed by debates over pricing. Instead, the company has spun off those announcements so each can have its own attention.
Another thing that stands out is the lack of a traditional collector's edition. While an Ultimate Edition is available digitally, there is currently no steelbook, printed map, collectible merchandise, or premium physical package like the ones released for GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
That possibility would fit with the company's current strategy of spreading announcements across several months instead of revealing everything at once. A later marketing push could include Trailer 3 alongside a proper collector's edition and physical merchandise, giving fans another major reason to get excited closer to launch.
New retailer listings have also surfaced online, offering what could be the clearest description yet of GTA 6's world. Although the information should still be treated cautiously until Rockstar confirms it, listings from Amazon Brazil and Kabum describe a massive version of Vice City alongside beaches, swamps, small towns, and the wider state of Leonida.
The descriptions also point to a far more dynamic open world.
NPCs are said to have their own daily routines, random events will occur around the map, and players can enter more interactive businesses than before. Another interesting addition is the expanded social media features, letting you watch viral videos, follow influencers, and keep up with events across Leonida through your in-game smartphone.

Retailer listings also mention next-gen graphics, with improved lighting, dynamic weather, improved animations, and much greater environmental detail. Much of this language is typical promotional stuff, but it does go along with Rockstar’s reputation for pushing graphical technology with each new release.
Performance remains another major topic surrounding GTA 6. Several reports suggest the game is targeting two graphics modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, offering a 30 FPS quality mode alongside a 60 FPS performance mode. However, there is still uncertainty over whether the higher frame rate will be available at launch.
Support for PlayStation 5 Pro has also attracted attention. Retail listings reference enhanced graphics, advanced ray tracing, improved lighting, dynamic weather effects, and higher resolutions optimized for Sony's upgraded console. Rockstar has also been promoting the game with "Play Best on PlayStation 5" messaging, adding more weight to speculation that Sony's hardware could offer the strongest console experience.
The Xbox Series S presents a different challenge. Reports claim the console is currently targeting 30 FPS, while Rockstar continues exploring ways to improve performance. Some believe Microsoft is assisting with optimization, but skepticism remains about whether the hardware will consistently reach 60 FPS.
The debate over physical copies has also intensified after conflicting reports emerged.
Some reports claim Rockstar currently has no plans for a physical edition of GTA 6, while others suggest one is still planned but will arrive several months after launch. If that happens, the game would launch digitally first before receiving a disc release later in the year. That approach would allow Rockstar to continue polishing the game right up until release without having to lock the build early for disc production.
A digital-first strategy also reduces the need for a massive day-one patch. Physical discs need to be printed weeks before launch, and this process means the game has to be locked down long before that. Such delays can mean that players are stuck with an outdated version that needs large patches immediately.

Launching digitally first gives Rockstar more time to polish the game until the last possible moment before release. A physical edition released later would likely include a more refined version, since the studio wouldn't need to finalize a disc build weeks in advance. It would also give collectors another opportunity to pick up the game with exclusive packaging or bonus content if Rockstar decides to offer a special edition.
Another business advantage to releasing physical copies later is also. It’s expected that many of the loyal fans will purchase the digital edition on launch day and then buy a collector’s or physical edition when it is released. That approach could significantly increase overall sales while satisfying players who still prefer owning physical games.
For now, Rockstar's marketing campaign is unfolding at its own pace. Instead of delivering everything at once, the company appears to be spacing out announcements to keep attention on the game throughout the months leading up to launch.
Even without another gameplay reveal, GTA 6 continues to dominate discussion due to ongoing speculation around Trailer 3, leaked retailer descriptions, performance reports, and uncertainty surrounding physical editions. Until Rockstar decides to show its hand, you’ll probably keep getting new reports and speculation to fill the gap as anticipation steadily builds.
