India Wil Not Lift Ban On PUBG

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) was banned in India earlier this month, along with over a hundred other Chinese backed apps and games. While PUBG Corp itself is based out of South Korea, within India publishing was being handled by China based Tencent. New Delhi had issued the ban citing that apps from China posed a threat to national security via data collection. To help circumvent the ban, PUBG Corp is proposing to sever ties with Tencent self-publish the game within India. However, government officials are stating that PUBG was partially banned due to its violent nature, and that a change in ownership would not be enough to overlook the game’s actual content.

PUBG Corp is doing whatever it can to return the game to India, which was one of their largest user bases. If this means somehow retooling the game, it may be their only option. They are also currently in talks with Jio Platforms, a division of Indian corporation Reliance Industries, to work on some kind of partnership.
