Insomniac's Venom Game Could Reshape Spider-Man 3 With Eddie Brock and Carnage

Marvel's Spider-Man 3 may end up being much more connected to Insomniac's Venom game than you might expect. A new leak claims the Venom project is still in active development and is currently targeting a 2027 release, but the bigger story is how its reported plot could affect the next mainline Spider-Man game. 

According to the leak, several storylines originally planned for Spider-Man 2 DLC could now shift to the Venom game and Spider-Man 3. That could make Venom much more important to the overall direction of Insomniac's Spider-Man universe than a simple spin-off.

The leak comes from MP1st and claims that Eddie Brock will be the protagonist of the Venom game. 

That would make sense after the events of Spider-Man 2, while also ruling out possibilities like Flash Thompson becoming Agent Venom or Insomniac creating an entirely new character for the role. If Eddie is indeed the main character, you could see a version of Venom that is much closer to his comic-book counterpart. 

Carnage has already been linked to the Venom project through information that reportedly came from internal Insomniac material exposed during the studio's breach. The new report also claims that Anti-Venom will play an important role, although it will apparently be different from the version associated with Peter Parker. 

Instead of looking like Peter's current Anti-Venom form, Eddie's version is said to be closer to the more monstrous version seen in the comics. That could give Eddie another way to control his relationship with the symbiote while also making him an important part of the story.

The reported role of Anti-Venom is especially interesting because it could connect directly to what happened with Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2. Peter already has his own Anti-Venom powers, but the leak suggests that Eddie's version will be separate from it. 

You could therefore end up with two different versions of Anti-Venom existing within the same universe. If the story follows this direction, Anti-Venom could become one of the major elements connecting the Venom game to Spider-Man 3.

The Venom game was reportedly designed from the beginning to act as a bridge between Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. 

The original plan was apparently for the game to launch in 2025 and function as a shorter experience similar to Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. However, plans appear to have changed after Insomniac canceled the second DLC for Spider-Man 2. The Carnage storyline that was supposedly planned for that DLC could now be reworked into the Venom game instead.

Those changes could also affect the Spider-Verse storyline. Rather than leaving parts of that storyline behind with the canceled DLC, the team may have reworked them for the Venom game and Spider-Man 3. 

The Beetle storyline could also reportedly return in some form, potentially as a side quest in Spider-Man 3. If these ideas are accurate, you could be looking at Insomniac moving several pieces of its canceled Spider-Man 2 content into the next stages of the series.

Eddie Brock's involvement could also have a direct impact on Peter Parker. Because Venom is expected to face Carnage, Peter could return from his hiatus to help Eddie deal with the threat. That would allow Peter to remain an important character even though Spider-Man 2 ended with him stepping away from his regular role as New York's main Spider-Man. 

The two characters may not immediately get along, either. The leak reportedly suggests that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock could have a conflict early in the game, potentially leading to a fight between Venom and Spider-Man. 

That would give Insomniac an opportunity to explore the relationship between the two characters before eventually turning them into allies against Carnage. Yuri Watanabe, the former police officer, could also become involved in the storyline.

There is another possibility involving Anti-Venom that could make the Venom game even more important to Peter's future. 

One theory surrounding the leak is that Peter could somehow transfer his Anti-Venom abilities to Eddie, giving Eddie a way to control Venom through the Anti-Venom connection. That would be a different approach from what has traditionally been shown with these characters and could give Insomniac a new way to handle the symbiote storyline.

At the same time, we should treat the report's description of Anti-Venom carefully. Peter Parker does not have Anti-Venom as an independent character, so the leak may be using the term differently or may simply be inaccurate.

If Insomniac does eventually move Peter away from the white Anti-Venom suit, it could also give the character his traditional red-and-blue Spider-Man appearance again for Spider-Man 3. That would make sense if the studio wants Peter back in his classic role for the conclusion of the trilogy.

Eddie Brock could also become a much bigger character beyond the Venom game. If his storyline is properly established in the spin-off, you could see him returning as a major supporting character in Spider-Man 3 rather than disappearing after his game. 

The Venom game would likely resolve the Carnage storyline, but the broader symbiote mythology could continue. If Insomniac decides to introduce Knull, that could potentially become material for Spider-Man 3 DLC, another Venom game, or even a future Spider-Man 4.

Harry Osborn could also benefit from the events of the Venom game. With Anti-Venom playing such a significant role, the story could potentially establish a way to use its powers to help Harry recover. That could lead to Harry becoming playable again and eventually helping Peter against Norman Osborn and his transformation into the Green Goblin. 

The number of playable characters could also help the Venom game be more distinctive. 

Earlier leaks reportedly suggested that the game could feature three playable characters, with Venom obviously being one of them and Peter Parker potentially being another. Yuri could potentially fill the third slot, although Anti-Venom could also become playable if Insomniac treats him as a separate character. 

Spider-Man 3 could then take those developments even further. Another leak reportedly claims that Insomniac is working on Miguel O'Hara, better known as Spider-Man 2099, for one of its projects. The project is said to be unlikely to be Wolverine, X-Men, or the Venom game, which makes Spider-Man 3 a possible destination. 

That possibility becomes even more compelling when you consider Spider-Man: The Great Web, the canceled multiplayer Spider-Man project. The transcript suggests that Spider-Man 3 could potentially reuse some of that game's ideas by introducing a multiversal crisis involving Miguel O'Hara, Peter Parker, and Miles Morales. 

You could potentially travel between dimensions, fight alternate versions of familiar villains, defeat major bosses, and close portals as part of large side missions. A Venomized Sandman is also mentioned as an example of the kind of alternate villain Insomniac could use.

This approach would allow Spider-Man 3 to expand beyond its main storyline without relying entirely on traditional side content. Miguel could arrive in Peter and Miles' universe because of a multiversal catastrophe, forcing the Spider-Men to help him solve the problem. 

Some missions could take place directly in the game's open world, while others could send the characters into entirely different dimensions. That would fit the larger scale Insomniac appears to be targeting for Spider-Man 3.

The potential character lineup is already becoming crowded. 

Spider-Man 3 is expected to feature Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Silk, while the rumored additions of Miguel O'Hara and Eddie Brock would add even more major heroes and antiheroes. That would give Insomniac a much larger group of characters to work with as the story brings together different parts of its Spider-Man universe.

That lines up with comments attributed to the game's creative director, who described Spider-Man 3 as the endgame and indicated that it would feature a large number of characters and villains. Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and the Chameleon have already been set up, while multiversal threats could add another layer.

The broader Insomniac roadmap also gives you an idea of how these projects could fit together. The transcript claims Wolverine is planned for 2026, Venom for 2027, Spider-Man for 2028, and X-Men for 2030. If that schedule holds, the Venom game would arrive just one year before Spider-Man 3 and could directly establish several of the story elements needed for the next mainline game. 

Still, the reported direction gives the Venom game a much bigger purpose. Instead of being a standalone adventure that simply explores another character, it could serve as the link between Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, bringing back Carnage, developing Eddie Brock, expanding Anti-Venom, and potentially setting up Harry Osborn's return. 

At the same time, its story could help Insomniac reuse ideas from canceled DLC and previously canceled projects. Should these reports prove accurate, the Venom game could emerge as one of the most significant components of the studio's broader Spider-Man universe.
