Insomniac's Marvel Year Ahead: Wolverine, Venom, and What's Next for Spider-Man

2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for Marvel Games.

For Marvel fans, with great games comes great excitement. Insomniac finally gave us a first look at Marvel's Wolverine during the recent State of Play. The official gameplay trailer didn't just give us a glimpse of Wolverine in action; it also confirmed that the game will release in Fall 2026, with more details set to be revealed next spring.

For fans like me, that's a huge moment, but it also raises some interesting questions about the future of Insomniac's other big Marvel projects, especially the Spider-Man series and the Venom game.

People who work in the industry say that the Venom game is still very much a part of Insomniac's plans. Early sources imply that Eddie Brock might be the primary protagonist, following a similar plot to Harry Osborn's in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and that Carnage may act as the major adversary.

There's still no official confirmation, but it seems the development of Venom is progressing smoothly behind the scenes, and fans are praying for his gaming debut.

Before Wolverine's reveal, there were whispers that the Venom game might actually launch first, possibly in 2026, which would push Wolverine's release to 2027. Clearly, those rumors were off. Wolverine is leading the charge next year. But 2026 isn't just about one game; it's shaping up to be an incredible year for Marvel fans.

The first of these is the mysterious Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which is slated for an early 2026 release. This game has been shrouded in secrecy, and no new gameplay footage has been released apart from the leaked footage earlier this year. However, the developer, Skydance, has indicated that development is well underway. It promises a more story-driven experience, and fans want to see how Insomniac makes that work with stars like Captain America and Black Panther.

There's also the fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 title from Arc System Works. It doesn't have the open-world campaigns or the "absolute cinema" feel of Insomniac's mainstream Marvel games, but it's already getting a lot of attention. Early beta testers have said that it "absolutely slaps" and gives you everything you could want from ArcSys in a Marvel fighting game. It's definitely a different type of Marvel experience, but it's still fun.

And of course, the centerpiece is Marvel's Wolverine.

If you didn't know already, Wolverine is going to be a mainline AAA title, likely arriving as early as September. With so much riding on this release, Insomniac is clearly putting all hands on deck to ensure Wolverine delivers the best possible experience. If it fails to deliver, Insomniac will have some sleepless nights to come.

With Wolverine taking center stage next year, what does this mean for the Spider-Man franchise? So, there's no official word yet, but, as always, there's a lot of speculation. By the time Wolverine hits, it will have been three years since Insomniac released Marvel's Spider-Man 2 in Fall 2023. That gap is partly due to the studio recovering from a major hacking attack in 2023.

Looking back, Insomniac has a history of balancing multiple projects.

In 2020 and 2021, they released three major AAA titles in consecutive years: Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered for PS5, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which remains one of the PS5's standout exclusives. This track record suggests that while Wolverine is their current priority, projects for Spider-Man and Venom are not far behind.

We might see a reveal for the rumored Venom game sometime in 2027, following the release of Wolverine. This game could connect Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and a potential Marvel's Spider-Man 3, which might arrive as late as 2029 or 2030. The exciting part is that the teams working on Spider-Man and Wolverine are separate within Insomniac, meaning there could already be devs planning pre-production for Spider-Man 3.

Patience is key.

This means Insomniac's priority right now is delivering a polished, thrilling Wolverine experience. Once that's out, attention will likely shift back to Spider-Man and Venom. Insomniac has consistently delivered high-quality games, so there's no reason for us to lose our sleep; let Insomniac take care of that. Wolverine is shaping up to continue that trend of Insomniac classics, and the future of Spider-Man looks equally promising.

2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years for Marvel Games ever. Blockbuster superhero action? Count me in. The takeaway here is clear: Insomniac Games is in the midst of a very busy period, and the next few years are stacked with potential.

Wolverine is just the beginning, and with the possibility of Venom and Spider-Man 3 on the horizon, you have plenty to be excited about. You might have to wait a bit longer for Spider-Man 3, but the foundation is being laid right now.

Now is your chance to shine, Wolverine. And after that, the Marvel Games world will probably grow in ways we can't even begin to conceive. Venom will finally make his mark, and Spider-Man will keep swinging his web in New York. There has never been a better time for Marvel Games.
