Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Leaked? What's New for Us?

Early footage shows potential for something special, but fans are still unsure of what it really means for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.

Marvel fans have been buzzing ever since new leaks for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra started making the rounds. But why? Well, this isn't just about any superhero game; it's Amy Hennig's big Marvel project. Yes, the same mind behind the Uncharted series.

That fact alone makes the game worth keeping an eye on, but also factor in the setting and characters, and we have a game on our hands. The story takes place during World War 2, with Hydra as the big bad pulling the strings from the shadows.

Instead of putting all the weight on one hero, the game splits its focus across four different playable characters: Steve Rogers as Cap, Azzuri—who happens to be T'Challa's grandfather and the Black Panther of the 40s, Gabriel "Gabe" Jones from the Howling Commandos, and Nanali, the leader of Wakanda's Spy Network.

With four different perspectives and playstyles, the story is set between Occupied Paris and Wakanda. On paper, it's one of the most ambitious Marvel setups we've ever seen, even rivaling Spider-Man. But then the leaks dropped, and things got a little messy. What people have been passing around online is early footage from around 2022 or 2023.

It shows Black Panther fighting Hydra soldiers in what appears to be a Paris lounge or bar. It can be observed from the footage that destructibility and player interaction are being tested, as evidenced by the furniture breaking, bullets tearing through the surroundings, and flying objects.

What people are complaining about is that the camera angles in these clips look strange (pulled back and more cinematic), so it's pretty clear this wasn't meant to represent final gameplay. It was just a blueprint, but the community still didn't take well to it, unreasonably making it the final nail in the coffin.

People assumed this is the game we'll be playing when it launches in 2026. But if you pay attention, the footage hints at how each character might feel in-game. Captain America screams "super soldier," a tank in combat, as we've seen in the movies. Black Panther looks acrobatic and agile. Nanali, being a spy, is for stealth, while Gabriel Jones brings that commando energy.

All signs point to a mission-based structure, swapping between characters like chapters in a book rather than dropping players into an open world. For a narrative-driven Marvel experience, that approach makes sense. It's something fresh compared to the more sandbox-style superhero titles we've seen recently.

The real issue here is expectations. Leaks like this often give unnecessary bad press to a game that's still in development, especially when the footage is years old. We've seen it happen before: fans react to placeholder material, then get upset when the final game looks different. Guys, now, let's think for a second. First of all, it's Amy Hennig in charge of creative, and secondly, it's a Marvel game. What's not to like?

For Skydance and Amy Hennig, that pressure could force their hand to show more than they were ready to, just to give the online bullies a reality check. The game is already pushed back to early 2026; it wouldn't be surprising if they drop another big trailer soon.

Even in its rough state, the leaks made the project look promising. Four heroes, two worlds colliding, and Marvel history being rewritten right in the middle of World War 2. The concept itself is worth our attention.

And if there's one thing Hennig has proven time and time again, it's that she knows how to craft a character-driven story. Rise of Hydra could very well become one of Marvel's strongest gaming entries to date, so just lay off the rage baiting and let the devs work their magic.
