Soon, a much-loved PlayStation favorite from the good old days will be back. A new leak, according to PlayStation Lifestyle, shows that Legacy of Kain: Defiance, the last game in the famous Legacy of Kain series, is on its way to current PlayStation systems as part of the PlayStation Plus Premium Classics library.
The news comes from a rating for Legacy of Kain: Defiance that was posted on the website of the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee. The rating was for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Even though Sony hasn't officially said when the game will be out, listings on regional classification boards are becoming a more reliable sign of new content, especially for the PlayStation Plus Classics series. If you have PS Plus Premium, this leak pretty much proves that another classic game from the PlayStation 2 will be released.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance, which came out in 2003, was the dramatic conclusion to the long-running dark fantasy series made by Crystal Dynamics and published by Eidos Interactive. Defiance was the last game in the series that started with Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain in 1996. It reunited the main characters, Kain and Raziel, who are both famous in video game history, in a dual-character, story-driven experience that looked at fate, betrayal, and forgiveness.
The story takes place in the gothic, time-warped world of Nosgoth and includes puzzles, exploration, intense third-person fighting, and a lot of voice acting that fans still enjoy more than twenty years later. Not only does it have a unique setting and art direction, but it also has an ambitious story that was written in part by the famous video game writer Amy Hennig, who later became known for writing the Uncharted series.
This upcoming re-release is very interesting because it will be the first time that Legacy of Kain: Defiance can be played on modern hardware. This will complete the digital preservation of the whole series across modern systems. This reintroduction gives longtime fans a chance to play a cult classic again with better graphics and gameplay. For newcomers, it's a chance to see one of the most ambitiously themed video game titles through to the end.
While the PS Plus Premium Classics program is still being worked on, it has been very helpful in bringing back classic PlayStation games. As new games are added to the service every month, the addition of Legacy of Kain: Defiance shows that Sony is still dedicated to remembering its rich history, which is both artistic and entertainment.
As a reminder, Defiance can be bought from the PlayStation Store by itself by people who don't have PS Plus Premium. Sony normally sells these old games for fair prices, and they often have new features like better graphics, the ability to rewind, quick saves, and support for prizes. The price has not been set yet.
This leak is especially interesting because fans of the Legacy of Kain series have become more interested in it recently. Over 100,000 people answered a 2022 community poll put out by Embracer Group, which now owns the IP after buying Crystal Dynamics. This shows that there is a strong desire for the franchise to return. Even though there hasn't been an official announcement of a new movie, the fact that the first few movies are still around shows that the series is still very much alive in popular culture.

Sony's plan to use memories and collect old games for the PS Plus Premium tier is turning out to be more than just a way to please fans. It shows respect for the long past of video games and the need to make that history available to players today. By adding Legacy of Kain: Defiance, Sony is living up to the promise of the Classics library as a link between generations, bringing classic games to new generations without locking them into old devices or services that have been shut down.
This is an important moment for both people who have explored the haunted ruins of Nosgoth and people who have only heard rumors about how famous the game is. The soul reaver is back, and so is the promise that real standards will never die; they're just waiting to be found again.
