Korea's Answer to Metal Gear Solid? Mudang: Two Hearts Stuns Summer Game Fest 2025

Last week was a busy one for game announcements. PlayStation's State of Play, Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Showcase all showed off a lot of new games. Even with all the trailers and teasers, Mudang: Two Hearts is the game that has sparked the most conversation. It's an exciting stealth-action game from South Korea's EVR Studio that proudly references Metal Gear Solid while also making its own unique style.

In Mudang: Two Hearts, which takes place in a politically charged and eerily plausible near future, there is a huge "what if ": what if North Korea and South Korea were about to join together again?

The story of the game is based on this high-stakes situation, where a reunification bill is about to be signed, bringing an end to decades of conflict and division. But just as history is about to be made, chaos breaks out when a terrorist group attacks South Korea's National Assembly. This throws the fragile peace into chaos and sets in motion a deep conspiracy that needs to be uncovered.

You'll be able to see the effects from both sides of the DMZ as you play as two very different characters. The first is Ji Jang-Ae, a tough North Korean special forces agent who gets around hostile areas and gathers information by using stealth, gadgets, and close combat. With two main characters, you can have different game experiences that build up to a single, shared climax that promises to reveal the dark truth behind the political unrest.

EVR Studio stresses player freedom by making levels that can go in any direction. You won't have to play a certain way; the game lets you play in a lot of different ways, like sneaking through air vents or killing guards quietly to use their weapons. The development team has also given considerable thought to AI design. 

People who are against you won't just wait for you to attack. Instead, they respond by finding bodies, responding to changes in sound and light, planning flanking moves, and adapting to your strategies. The system is designed to reward individuals who are patient, accurate, and skilled at making informed decisions.

The studio is also hosting numerous shows. You can look forward to fully cinematic cutscenes that flow right into the game, story-altering choices that change the course of events, and tough boss fights that will test your reflexes and morals.

Mudang: Two Hearts will be available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC when it comes out in 2026.
