It would appear that Team Ninja, the developer best known for Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, has decided to reboot each of these franchises now that several years have transpired since the last entries in either franchise.
According to a report by the Korean website Ruliweb, the company partially announced the news at a panel at the G-Star Conference, which took place between 17 and 20 November. The Director and President of Team Nina, Fumihiko Yasuda, confirmed that these two franchises would be making some kind of a return. Although, he was sure to remain quite vague about the exact plans going forward.
However, thanks to a screenshot from the conference which shows images of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, and which states “The future of Team Ninja – Reboot of popular series” in Japanese, we have all but definite verbal confirmation that these two franchises will be rebooted. Although anything further than that has not been confirmed.
This should come as a welcome return for many fans, as there has not been a mainline Dead or Alive game since 2019, and there hasn’t been a proper Ninja Gaiden game since 2014’s Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, and that wasn’t even a mainline entry in the hack and slash classic but rather a spin-off predominantly developed by another studio, Spark Unlimited.
It should be interesting to see what’s in store for these two classic franchises now that Team Ninja has decided to revive them. There will be more news in future as this story develops, but for now, there is at least confirmation that these games are going to make a return, although fans have likely been waiting far longer and more impatiently for a new Ninja Gaiden game, but the more the better!
