HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us is less than a week away, and many have been concerned about whether or not the adaptation will manage to live up to the critically acclaimed game franchise. Well, the reviews are officially in and this adaptation of The Last of Us has received rave reviews from professional critics.

At time of writing, the Rotten Tomato rating sits at a whopping 97% with 60 reviews posted thus far. At present, only two reviewers have given negative reviews while the remaining 58 reviewers have lavished the new series with praise. It appears that The Last of Us is not the disappointment that many were preparing themselves for, and as game adaptions do not have a good history, that preparation is very necessary.

There are often differences of opinion between critics and the general audience, but this should give some hope to those who are fans of the game, those who want this series to succeed. Hopefully, when the series does release for the general public on 16 January 2023, the audience will love it as much as the critics.

The series officially releases as a nine-part series starting on the 16th and new episodes will release once a week. So, this should be exciting news for everyone who has wanted to get a good adaptation of a video game. More recent adaptations like the Sonic movie or Detective Pikachu have managed to be better than most adaptations, but this is a much more serious narrative than either of those movies. Let’s hope the changes that were made fit in well with the world and the narrative as a whole.
