Nintendo fans have another rumor to sink their teeth into, with new rumors suggesting that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess could eventually arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2. While the report has excited longtime Zelda fans, Nintendo has not yet confirmed, leaving the prospect firmly in the rumor zone.
The most recent rumor comes from an online report claiming there's a new version of Twilight Princess in the works for Nintendo's upcoming hardware. Technically, the Switch 2 is said to have extra power that the original Nintendo Switch apparently couldn't fully support, which is why the classic adventure is revisited.

The report also states that The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker may not be getting the same treatment.
Instead, the game is apparently “stuck in limbo,” with no real evidence that a new version is currently under development. If the claims prove to be true, a Twilight Princess remake might help fill the long gap until Nintendo's next major 3D Zelda game, which industry insiders estimate may not appear until 2028 or 2029.
However, Nintendo has not announced any remaster or remake of Twilight Princess or Wind Waker, and fans should take the allegations with a grain of salt. Although the source of the claims has accurately forecast several Nintendo events in the past, its record is far from perfect. Some fans believe the insider has real industry connections, as the reports previously leaked reliable information during the Switch 2 era.
Meanwhile, the insider has also missed several high-profile predictions. One famous example was the prediction that Nintendo would have a Direct presentation earlier this year, revealing its next major 3D Mario game, which never occurred. That very ambiguity has been part of the insider’s reputation.
Some forecasts are fulfilled months or years later, and others don’t seem to materialize at all, or seem to be plans that were altered during development. The latest story is backed up by industry insiders. Some of those examples include Nintendo working on face-tracking technology for its camera features that eventually made its way into first-party software, and the early talk of an Ocarina of Time remake before other well-known insiders started reporting similar news.
These successful forecasts demonstrate that the insider does have access to reputable sources within the sector. But the varying success rates mean that treating all new claims as equally reliable is problematic, critics say.

So many fans are opting to stay cautiously optimistic.
A Twilight Princess remake on modern consoles is undoubtedly an exciting prospect, but until there’s official word, it’s best to temper expectations. For now, many think Nintendo's immediate Zelda ambitions concentrate around the long-rumored Ocarina of Time remake, not another return to Twilight Princess.
If that project is actually the company's next major Zelda release, it would make little sense to split focus with another high-profile remake debuting around the same time. Maybe a smaller-scale improvement, rather than a full redesign, would be the more likely option. Nintendo might re-release Twilight Princess in an enhanced edition comparable to the Wii U HD edition, with higher resolutions, better textures, smoother performance, and a rock-solid 60 frames per second presentation, rather than starting from scratch and reconstructing the game.
Others see something more like Metroid Prime Remastered, where graphical upgrades modernize the experience without fundamentally changing the game. It would require fewer development resources, yet still give a significant update for Switch 2 owners.
Many fans still hold out hope that Nintendo may one day bundle Twilight Princess HD with Wind Waker HD into a collection, perhaps as part of The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary celebrations.

But even that remains theoretical, given Nintendo’s apparent focus on Ocarina of Time. If you look more than a year out, the picture is much murkier. When Nintendo’s current Zelda projects are out of the way, there’s potential for further remakes or remasters in the Switch 2 generation. One of the most desired games in the series to return is Twilight Princess, and it’s an obvious choice for Nintendo as it starts bringing back more of its back catalog.
Meanwhile, fans have to balance hope with mistrust. The current rumor might be true, turn into a different project, or just disappear as another unsubstantiated claim. Nintendo isn't commenting on the matter, but the question of Twilight Princess on Switch 2 is one of the biggest unresolved concerns among Zelda aficionados. But whatever the case, whether the game comes as a full remake, a polished remaster, or never returns at all, only future announcements would tell Nintendo's true ambitions for one of the franchise's most treasured experiences.
