Ubisoft Might Push Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake To Fall 2026
Now that the AC Shadows is out of the way, Ubisoft can shift their attention to the much-anticipated Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake.

Although it's no secret that the Assassin's Creed series has taken a nosedive in popularity over the past decade, the brand is still one of the most recognizable names in gaming. It would appear that Assassin's Creed Shadows is off to a fantastic start, with over 2 million gamers and excellent reviews. The only way out of Ubisoft's current financial crisis is a series of smash hits; therefore, a remake of the series' most adored game would be the perfect approach to win people back.
While rumors about the Black Flag Remake began to circulate in early 2024, they had been spreading for some time. In January of that year, however, Insider Gaming released a report that appeared to confirm the existence of the game, at least to a certain extent. Ubisoft was slashing its annual budget at the time. Thus, no one knows how much money they were allotted to the project or whether it would ever see release. However, the game was still in development as of 2024.
Initially, Insider Gaming estimated that the game would be in development for a few years. However, they issued a follow-up report in October 2024 to confirm that the game was still being developed and far further along than expected. The lack of confirmation on the game's existence is hardly surprising given Ubisoft's preoccupation with Assassin's Creed Shadows and all its challenges.
We don't yet know when Assassin's Creed Hex, the Witch Trials Assassin's Creed game, will actually be released, leaving Ubisoft with some empty space in their release schedule. This presents the ideal opportunity for them to release an easy layup and begin regaining control of their financial situation.
It would be incredibly wise to launch another remake similar to Assassin's Creed Black Flag right after the success of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which has already had a strong launch. Many Assassin's Creed fans hold Black Flag in high regard; hence, the prospect of a revamped game that takes its cues from the original while also adding new features is quite attractive.
There are several theories and leaks from reliable resources about the impending release of Black Flag Remake. We believe that Ubisoft Forward in 2025 will be the perfect event to reveal the game's release date and details. If Ubisoft were to announce the Black Flag Remake during a summer event and then release it in the fall, maybe between September and October 2025, before the rest of the industry releases their big holiday games, the gaming community would be very supportive.
However, assuming that Ubisoft isn't scared off by Grand Theft Auto 6, they might decide to wait until Rockstar updates GTA 6's release window. In that case, Black Flag Remake would likely fall into early 2026. Regardless of when Ubisoft decides to place the release window for this remake, we expect it to be revealed at the next Ubisoft Forward event, which is just a few months away.
