Griffins are among the most demanding creatures in ARK: Survival Ascended, known for their massive power and resourcefulness. Such powerful creatures are the best companions you can have within the game.

Primary Spawn Locations

Griffins are best found in the mouth of the canyon or relatively close to coordinates 38, 25, which has several advantages over the other locations.

Griffins fly straight across the water in this location, making it extremely easy to see and strike.

The fact that this region is low in wildlife animals means fewer hostile animals will attack and kill Griffins before you can tame them.

As you explore this space, stay at the canyon's end, where it meets the sea. Go down to the correct level and move toward the start of the rock outcropping.

Griffins prefer floating at this precise level, making them easy to trap and domesticate. Patrol this area in a circle, as Griffins always spawn there. The animals do not typically venture past the middle rock formation, so focus your search within this known boundary.

Green Obelisk Region

The Green Obelisk region is the largest Griffinspawn area, located in a big field between two snow biomes.

While this area technically has the most Griffin spawns concentrated, it is not among the most desirable areas to hunt because of the significant drawbacks of this terrain.

The mountainous terrain is a spawning ground for the most dangerous animals, like Rexes and Allosaurus, which often assault Griffins.

Griffins will go after almost any animal they encounter, and it is usually too much damage or killing before you can even try to tame them because Griffin taming requires the animal to be in nearly perfect health for a successful knockout. A damaged specimen can't be tamed effectively.

Hence, if canyon entry is not successful, the Green Obelisk area would also be an option, but come in cautiously and be ready to clear out hostiles.

Triple Waterfall Area

Another spawning point for Griffins is near the volcano's border, near the Triple Waterfall. This location serves as a fallback when the bigger locations don't work.

The fact that the location is vertical makes it difficult to spot Griffins because they spawn on different levels across the landscape.

Griffins here can be anywhere from ground level to even higher up, requiring cautious navigation of the vertical height.

Although encounters are less intense in this zone, you can still collect specimens. However, some occasionally get trapped inside rock formations, making them easier to tame.

Hunting Strategy

Prioritize your first efforts at the canyon entrance location due to its reliability and safety.

The low hostile wildlife and consistent Griffin flight patterns make it your best chance at successful encounters.

If this area does not work, move to the Green Obelisk area, but exercise extreme caution due to hostile fauna that may hamper your taming efforts.

Leave the Triple Waterfall zone for the last search after all the other areas have been searched. The rugged terrain and random spawn make it the worst hunting ground, but it can prove profitable if all the different locations you have tried fail.

Remember that Griffin taming requires specialized equipment and a method-intensive approach, so do not go on your hunt without preparation. The animals' strength and the specific needs for taming require particular preparation for success.
