You will learn how to use the utility closet—one of the most valuable rooms in the game—to unlock a permanent upgrade that allows you to start every single run with two gems already in your inventory. This guide explains the process step by step.
Required Items
If you want hints on figuring out the puzzle, you will need a piece of paper from the mail room and an email from an access terminal. However, if you want to input the code and obtain the unlock, follow the instructions below.
Puzzle Instructions
Start by pressing all of the buttons until they turn green. Then go to the first button to turn it red; doing so will enable you to proceed through the blue buttons and turn the red ones purple.
Your goal is to proceed from left to right or right to left so that all buttons become purple. When you have five purple buttons, the last one can be turned purple.
With everything purple, click the fourth button to make it white and leave it alone for the rest of the solution. Next, press the sixth button to turn it red. Then, press the fifth button, which is now blue, and press the fifth button again until it turns red, thereby completing the right half of the puzzle.
After that, move to position one to turn it off, then go to position three and change it to green. At this point, you are as good as done.
Final Steps and Upgrade Unlock
If you make significant mistakes along the way, it might be worth calling it a day and trying again in a new room that has been reset. Once you have completed the puzzle, interact with the switch behind the false door to unlock the gemstone cavern.
This action permanently upgrades you to begin every run with two gems already in your inventory. This upgrade is beneficial for crafting some rarer rooms earlier in your playthrough and will make the game easier.
