Fellowship Guide | Best Rime Build & Rotation (Quick Start)

Dominate early content with Rime’s high-DPS frost toolkit using a simple, reliable rotation and smart cooldown timing.

Game Guide by Ornstein on  Oct 19, 2025

You play Rime, a frost-focused caster who delivers explosive damage through a builder–spender kit. The goal is to generate Winter Orbs quickly and convert them into massive single-target or area damage finishers.

The kit is intentionally approachable while rewarding tight cooldown alignment and clean global-cooldown usage for standout burst and sustained DPS.

Core Mechanics And Resource Flow

Your basic frost spells build progress toward Winter Orbs. At two orbs, you spend on either Glacial Blast for single-target or Ice Comet for multi-target situations.

Efficient play means cycling cooldowns to maximize orb generation, then choosing the correct spender for the encounter state. When these spenders critically strike, they hit extraordinarily hard, allowing you to delete priority targets or carpet an area with comets during packs.

Primary Generators And Openers

Your bread-and-butter builder is Frostbolt, which steadily advances your orb bar. Cold Snap instantly grants an orb and can be woven at the end of a cast to minimize global-cooldown downtime.

For explosive openers, apply Bursting Ice first; it functions like a frost bomb that pulses damage and grants notable orb progress each tick.

Layer Freezing Torrent immediately after to accelerate generation, reaching your first spender window fast. Because Ice Comet is instant, you can fire it at the tail end of a cast to clip the GCD cleanly or to maintain full DPS while moving.

Single-Target Priority With Glacial Blast

On bosses and priority targets, start with Bursting Ice, weave Cold Snap, channel Freezing Torrent, and then spend on Glacial Blast. Continue with Frostbolt fillers to rebuild, reapply Bursting Ice on cooldown, and repeat the cycle.

As haste rises, the loop tightens, bringing spenders back sooner while pushing more Frostbolt casts between cooldowns to keep orbs flowing. Correct spender timing combined with well-placed crits produces devastating boss windows.

Multi-Target Damage With Ice Comet

For packs, the setup mirrors single-target: Bursting Ice into Freezing Torrent, weaving Cold Snap at cast tails. Instead of Glacial Blast, dump orbs into Ice Comet repeatedly.

The instant-cast nature of Ice Comet lets you maintain pressure while dodging ground effects or repositioning, and the quicker your generators tick, the more comets you rain down. The philosophy is simple: generate relentlessly and spend aggressively on Ice Comet until the pack dissolves.

Ultimate And Burst Windows

Activating Wrath of Winter periodically grants a Winter Orb every few seconds, increases damage dealt, and makes Glacial Blast instant during its effect window. Use it shortly after building initial orbs so you can chain multiple spenders with minimal downtime.

In single-target phases, this converts into relentless Glacial Blast pressure; in AoE, the extra orbs fuel a streak of Ice Comet casts. Treat the ultimate as a high-tempo window where mobility, instant casts, and rapid spending converge.

Mobility, Positioning, And GCD Management

Ice Dash is a snappy blink that can be chained, used mid-jump, and carries momentum, allowing you to clear dangerous zones or pass through bosses without losing casts.

Because Ice Comet and ultimate-empowered Glacial Blast are instant, you can align them at the end of longer casts to “clip” your global and squeeze more throughput into the same timeline.

Think of your GCD as a budget to invest wisely—finish a cast, weave an instant, and start the next cast immediately.

Survival And Control Tools

When unavoidable damage looms, Frost Ward grants a significant damage reduction for a short burst, helping you survive soaks or missteps and easing healer load during spicy mechanics.

Keep Brain Freeze ready as your interrupt; learn dungeon and boss casts worth stopping, and use it proactively to prevent lethal or group-wide damage.

Early Stat Targeting And Build Ideas

As an early stat, haste stands out because it speeds up casts, reduces cooldown returns, and automatically makes more orbs. Critical Strike works great with your spenders. Landing crits on Glacial Blast or Ice Comet creates the heavy spikes that make Rime so deadly.

Consider investing in Spirit if available in your build path; more Spirit can accelerate ultimate charge and add a chance to refund Winter Orbs when you spend them, enabling exhilarating chains of Ice Comet or rapid-fire Glacial Blast during burst windows.

Mixing Haste with Crit, and optionally layering Spirit, creates a responsive, snowballing playstyle that erases packs and melts bosses alike.

Practical Play Pattern To Internalize

Open with Bursting Ice, weave Cold Snap, channel Freezing Torrent, and spend on the right finisher for the scenario. Maintain Bursting Ice on cooldown, use Cold Snap at cast tails for clean GCD usage, and fill with Frostbolt while watching for spender windows.

Pop Wrath of Winter after establishing momentum to cash in on instant casts and free orbs, and use Ice Dash to reposition without sacrificing throughput. Keep Frost Ward for lethal moments and Brain Freeze for critical interrupts.

Master these fundamentals, and Rime becomes a top-tier, easy-to-pilot damage dealer with satisfying peaks.
