Gale is a handy companion in Hades II, giving you many passive bonuses like movement speed and some defensive capabilities like parrying and dodging.

Initial Requirements

Before you can recruit any Animal Familiar, you must first defeat Hecate, the initial boss of the game, at least five times. During these encounters, you'll need to use the Pickaxe twice and the Shovel twice.

Additionally, you must free at least one soul using the Tablet of Peace. Once these requirements are met, Hecate will provide you with the Faith of Familiar Spirits incantation, which requires one Lotus and two Nectar to cast in Hades II.

Successfully performing this incantation will grant you a Witch's Delight, a biscuit-like item that serves as the key to befriending Animal Familiars.

You'll need to craft additional Witch's Delights using the Beastloved Morsel recipe, which requires one Nectar and one Stardust.

Stardust can be purchased from the Wretched Broker for 600 bones, though only one can be bought per night, making it a somewhat scarce resource early in the game.

Advanced Familiar Requirements

Gale represents one of the two advanced Familiars that require significantly more preparation and progress.

Both Hecuba and Gale are considered Hecate's pets. You must have all three previous Familiars (Frinos, Raki, and Toula) unlocked and have used them extensively before attempting to recruit Gale.

Gale - The Combat and Ability

Gale, the Protective Spirit, is a rare and valuable Familiar, representing the ultimate achievement in Familiar recruitment. To unlock Gale, you must meet all previous Familiar requirements and progress to the end of the third surface act in Hades II.

You'll encounter Gale at the Chronos shop area just before the third boss encounter. This final Familiar demands the same preparation as Hecuba, but with the added requirement of a decent game progression in Hades II.

Gale provides mastery in defensive capacity, stopping up to three charges in an area irrespective of their damage value.

The Familiar is resistant to both minor bumps and crushing attacks, blocking them effectively. These defensive charges regenerate every 30 seconds, but using them practically requires timing and patience.

Other than defense, Gale also provides your mobility by increasing dodge chance and movement speed in Hades II.

The Familiar also gains bonuses for flora resources, making it more straightforward to locate materials that can be plucked straight from the world without the use of any special equipment. Gale is instrumental when you cut plants, mushrooms, and other surface materials in most crafting recipes.

The defensive mechanic of Gale is jumping in front of enemies and then dealing Retaliatory damage to the enemy three times per area.

No matter if you're taking one point of damage or forty points of damage, Gale will parry the attack with the same resolve.

The ability has a 30-second cooldown, so you can't spam with Gale. Instead, you will have to focus on your timing and positioning to utilize Gale's defensive capabilities in Hades II.
