Hecuba is one of the most useful Animal Familiars in Hades II, providing you with not only magical capabilities but also a great companion to farm resources.

Initial Requirements

Before you can recruit any Animal Familiar, you must first defeat Hecate, the initial boss of the game, at least five times. During these encounters, you'll need to use the Pickaxe twice and the Shovel twice in Hades II.

Additionally, you must free at least one soul using the Tablet of Peace. Once these requirements are met, Hecate will provide you with the Faith of Familiar Spirits incantation, which requires one Lotus and two Nectar to cast.

Successfully performing this incantation will grant you a Witch's Delight, a biscuit-like item that serves as the key to befriending Animal Familiars in Hades II.

You'll need to craft additional Witch's Delights using the Beastloved Morsel recipe, which requires one Nectar and one Stardust.

Stardust can be purchased from the Wretched Broker for 600 bones, though only one can be bought per night, making it a somewhat scarce resource early in the game.

Advanced Familiar Requirements

Hecuba represents one of the two advanced Familiars that require significantly more preparation and progress.

Both Hecuba and Gale are considered Hecate's pets, necessitating special permission from the goddess herself. You must have all three previous Familiars (Frinos, Raki, and Toula) unlocked and have used them extensively before attempting to recruit these advanced companions in Hades II.

Hecuba - Combat and Ability

Hecuba can first be encountered in Echo's chamber, though Nemesis's presence can prevent this meeting.

You must complete a minimum of 12 runs and perform the Bravery of Familiar Spirits incantation. This involves using Frinos to compel souls multiple times, using Raki for mining tasks, and using three to four Witch's Delights on your Familiars.

After you've fulfilled these requirements, a special dialogue with Hecate will unlock the possibility of hiring Hecuba. The dialogue is an opening for accessing Hecate's companions, and therefore, it is an essential milestone.

Once recruited, Hecuba provides many magical benefits in Hades II, increasing your magic reserves and improving your chances of finding digging resources such as seeds.

The Familiar occasionally stuns enemies during combat encounters and can find valuable items, including healing consumables or spirit bubbles that restore mana.

Hecuba excels when paired with weapons that rely heavily on charged attacks and omega moves that consume significant amounts of magic in Hades II.

The magical enhancement that Hecuba provides makes this Familiar particularly valuable for builds focused on spell-heavy combat styles.

Weapons with aspects that encourage frequent use of omega attacks benefit tremendously from the increased mana pool and regeneration capabilities.

The resource-gathering bonus for digging materials also supports crafting efforts, as many incantations and recipes require seeds and other buried treasures that Hecuba helps locate.
