When it comes to providing information to you, Hyper Light Breaker prefers to keep things under wraps and let you figure things out for themselves. This frequently leads to some of you becoming confused or misinterpreting important mechanics of the game. This is a guide to clear every misunderstanding.

Where is My Healing?

Hyper Light Breaker Beginner's Guide, Where is My Healing?

You do not have the Medkit unlocked at the start of the game, which is a bummer and annoying, so if you want to speed up your healing, focus on exploring the Overgrowth until you fail your first cycle by losing all of your lives, at which point you will most likely receive your first Golden Ration, which you can use to purchase your first Medkit capacity module at Pherus, Tier 1 on the right-hand side.

After this, you'll need to buy Medkits every run with Medigems. If you don't have Medigems, start gathering flowers like you're playing. Don't Starve Together on the Verge of Insanity, if that makes any sense.

One Medkit heals 75 HP or can be used to revive another player, though I don't advocate doing so until absolutely necessary because Medkits are more expensive to purchase throughout a run. Rather than utilizing your valuable Medkits, it is cheaper to go to a shrine and revive another player for merely 100 Bright Blood.

Parrying To Heal

If you successfully parry an attack, you will recover any red health that you have lost. This means that if you are injured by an attack and then parry another attack, you will recoup your lost health.

Friends Are Your Best Friend

I've stated it before, but this game is balanced around multiplayer; if you have other people with you, your odds of surviving increase dramatically. If you can find other people to play the game together, I highly encourage it; you'll most likely find people on the official Discord, and there are many voice channels designed expressly for teamwork.

Durability

Hyper Light Breaker Beginner's Guide, Durability

Almost every item you find in the Overgrowth has durability; however, each time you die, you lose one segment of durability from each item you have on. The number of segmented bars at the bottom of an item's icon in your loadout menu indicates how durable it is.

Durability loss can be easily avoided if you don't die. Extracting during a run in the Overgrowth, rather than dying, will not reduce durability.

Danger Level

Hyper Light Breaker Beginner's Guide, Danger Level

Your current "danger level" will be displayed beneath your minimap, a bar that will gradually fill with yellow as you travel through a run; the higher this bar fills, the more hazardous adversaries you'll encounter; if you've played Risk of Rain 2 before, you'll be familiar with this concept.

However, the bar fills up depending on how much you've done in a single run rather than how long you've been running. Opening crates, equipping Holobytes/weapons, and so on only fill the bar for your current run; thus, if you die or extract, the bar will reset to zero for your next run.

If you wish to escape death, I recommend keeping an eye on this bar and extracting it as soon as it becomes too high. Remember, you can extract as many times as you like inside a cycle! A cycle will only cease when you lose all of your reservations.
