Let me walk you through the decision to send Luigi or Princess Peach as bait and explain each option. This guide should help you make the right choice without any regrets.
The key difference comes down to who you’ll have with you while dealing with the enemies on Loto Coin Island. If you bring Luigi along and send Princess Peach as bait, he’ll help you handle the tough fights along the way to rescuing her. This can make a big difference, especially if you’re not completely confident with the combat mechanics in Mario & Luigi Brothership.
That said, Luigi’s cutscene is longer and starts with him trying to act brave—he puffs out his chest and tells Princess Peach that he’ll go. But then, he gets nervous, changes his mind, and says he doesn’t want to go after all. Still, everyone encourages him to be courageous, and he ultimately agrees. It’s a nice callback to his bravery in Luigi’s Mansion.
To keep him from running off, they bury him in the ground, and he gets carried away as bait. That’s pretty much the gist of it. However, if you send Luigi, you’ll face several tough battles against groups of strong enemies. While I managed to make it through, it’s a challenge, and you’ll need to rely on good parrying skills.
If you decide to take Luigi with you, the fights on the way will be easier. Eventually, you’ll reunite with Luigi when you rescue him, but there’s a puzzle to solve before that happens.
Now, if you send Princess Peach as bait and take Luigi with you, the journey will play out a bit differently. Princess Peach has her cutscene, which shows her being calm and brave about the decision. She screams, "MARIOOO!" and then says, “I’m counting on you."
To watch both cutscenes, I advise creating a different save point before making any decision. This will allow you to experience both outcomes and choose which you prefer.
