In this guide, I’m going to walk you through the choice between Skorcheen Island and Slippenglide Island in Mario & Luigi: Brothership. If you remember the last time you had to choose between islands, it had some major consequences, so I want to make sure you’re clear on the differences this time.
When you reach this point in the game, you will have to choose which island you want. Here is the catch: one island actually gives you an ability that will help you on the other one. If you decide to go to Slippenglide Island first, you will come across the flowers but will not be able to use them to collect all the loot. If you go to Skorcheen Island first, you will be able to unlock those flowers and use them to loot. So for that, I suggest you go to Skorcheen Island first.
That said, there isn’t a huge difference between the two islands otherwise. The main distinction is that on Slippenglide Island, you’ll learn a new ability that helps you make the ball go faster, which can be useful on other islands. But you don’t actually need this ability to progress on Scorching Island.
I suggest stopping at Skorcheen Island to kick off the expedition and then continuing the trip towards Slippenglide Island because the game's order does not change much otherwise.
Another difference is that taking Slippenglide Island would require you to do some research in a Research Lab. Interesting, but I wouldn't deem it essential information where you'll learn about the enemies and their plans. But you'll have to stay cautious of tough enemies like Goombas and Koopas, which you'll meet along the way.
On the other hand, if you head to Scorching Island, you’ll unlock an ability that allows you to turn the UFO into a Hoover. This lets you cross areas with protective barriers underneath and lets you interact with flowers and grates to suck up coins. If you're not sure what I mean by the shiny grates, you can refer to the video linked above for clarification.
Another thing about Skorcheen Island is that you’ll meet a doctor who plays an important role in the story. The good news is that the doctor will be involved regardless of which island you visit first, so it doesn’t affect the story whether you go to one island or the other.
So, in conclusion, while Skorcheen Island is definitely the better option, you don’t need to visit it first. Those are the main differences between Skorcheen Island and Slippenglide Island in Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
