Marvel's Spider-Man 2 can be tougher than earlier games, but you can make things easier by grabbing some key upgrades right at the start. These upgrades can give you a big power boost early on. The game isn't like the previous installments in that there are three skill trees now: one tree for Peter, one for Miles, and a co-op tree for both Spider-Men. On the skill trees, you can spend your skill points as you would like but will have to make up your mind whether you are updating one character or the other or both.

Get These Skills as Soon as Possible

It's smart to start by unlocking unique abilities for each Spider-Man. Each of them has four ability slots, but initially, you can only use two. To unlock the other two slots, you'll need to invest in their individual skill trees.

For Miles, two great early abilities are Venom Dash, which costs one skill point, and Venom Jump, which costs two. If you've played Miles Morales, you'll recognize these moves. They let you attack enemies with a venom-infused dash or launch them into the air, which can be a game-changer in combat.

Peter has some amazing abilities with these new spider arms. The first ability is Spider Rush, which costs one skill point, and it allows Peter to rush through enemies, damaging them in the process and helping you make an easy escape from tough situations. Next on the list is Spider Shock, which costs two points and enables Peter to shoot electrified web lines at the enemy to stun them and leave them open for follow-up attacks.

Once you've unlocked these abilities, shift Focus to the shared skill tree. The first upgrade here, Slingshot Launch, is very useful. By holding L2 and X, you can charge a powerful forward leap, which helps you travel across the city quickly. It's like a horizontal version of the charge jump, and it's great for spotting activities and crimes on the map. Plus, you get a stunning view of New York City as you go.

How to Unlock Fast Travel

Fast Travel is incredibly helpful, but you need to unlock it by completing activities in each district of the city. If you only play through the main story and skip optional activities, you won't get this feature. To activate fast travel, complete enough activities to reach the second level in a district. Once unlocked, you can select any point on the map in that district and instantly teleport there.

It's especially useful to unlock at least one fast travel point on each side of the water early on, as traveling across the river can take a lot of time. The more fast travel points you unlock, the easier it will be to reach objectives quickly.

Importance of Suit Tech

Suit Tech came in, leaving behind the old leveling system for health and damage in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. It will be attainable after you've done the "Amends" mission early on in the game; after that, you can start unlocking Suit Tech upgrades with these tokens earned from activities. Among these upgrades, Focus is the most critical.

Focus allows you to heal or perform finishers in combat. Unlocking a second Focus bar should be your top priority. If you don't have enough tokens for it, you can press Triangle on the upgrade screen to see which activities drop the tokens you need. The third Focus bar becomes available at level 14, and unlocking it as soon as possible is highly recommended. Having three Focus bars early on gives you a big advantage in combat.

You should also look at damage upgrades in the Suit Tech tree. One great choice is the Air Marshal perk, which increases your damage against airborne enemies. Another option is an upgrade that restores ability cooldowns after successful parries. However, the air damage boost is especially helpful early in the game since it pairs well with basic gadgets and moves that launch enemies into the air.

Don't Miss Out on the Prowler Stashes

The "Amends" mission also unlocks Prowler Stashes, a side activity that offers great rewards. Completing these stashes gives you rare Tech Parts and a secret upgrade for Miles. Once you've finished all the stashes, you unlock a side quest that leads to the Prowler Strike.

The Prowler Strike is a powerful move tied to Miles's camouflage ability. When you use it, your first punch, while camouflaged, deals extra damage and creates a shockwave that knocks back nearby enemies. This move doesn't trigger during stealth takedowns, so you can use it multiple times in one fight. It's a great addition to Miles's arsenal, making camouflage even more effective in combat.

Skills That Boost Combos

Both Peter and Miles can unlock skills that allow them to use their abilities more often. Start with Perfect Dodge and KO Recharge from the shared skill tree. These skills reduce the cooldown for your abilities when you perform perfect dodges or get knockouts with finishers or stealth takedowns. Since these actions are common in fights, these upgrades let you use your strongest moves more frequently.

Another useful skill is Fired Up, which increases the Focus you earn when you maintain high combo counts. To build combos faster, unlock Wall Trash. This skill lets you press the attack button repeatedly to perform a series of quick kicks when an enemy is pressed against a wall. Each kick counts as a separate hit, boosting your combo count quickly and giving you more Focus.

Two other great combo skills are Bounce Up and Web Swing Combo. Bounce Up lets you slam an enemy to the ground by holding Triangle while in the air, causing them to bounce back up for extended combos. Web Swing Combo, performed after a Swing Kick, lifts enemies higher into the air, allowing for more aerial attacks. These moves can even be chained together for maximum damage.

Additionally, Combo Resupply is a handy skill that gives you a chance to use a gadget for free after a four-hit combo. When it activates, a marker appears on your screen, signaling that your next gadget won't use any ammo.

Get the Web Grabber

The Web Grabber gadget is a game-changer for handling groups of enemies. It costs 115 Tech Parts and three City Tokens, which you can earn from crimes and photo ops. When activated, it pulls multiple enemies into one spot, setting them up for attacks like Venom Punch.

With upgrades, the Web Grabber becomes even better. At level 10, it can pull in nearby objects, which crash into enemies for extra damage. Later upgrades increase its range and allow it to pull in larger enemies like brutes. The final upgrade, available at level 26, lets it create a shockwave that stuns grouped enemies. Unlocking and upgrading the Web Grabber early makes combat much easier and more efficient.

By focusing on the following skills, activities, and gadgets, you can easily prepare yourself to tackle the challenges of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Upgrades and strategies are sure to get you swinging through the city and winning battles in no time.
