To find Zapdos in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, you need to start at the Rock Tunnel Pokémon Center. Once you have access to Fly, you can reach this spot easily. You also need a Pokémon that knows Surf. This move is obtained in the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City. Without Surf, you cannot reach the Power Plant.

Before heading out, make sure your Bag is ready. It helps to bring a lot of Ultra Balls, healing items, and Max Repels. These items make the trip much easier. Zapdos has a low catch rate, so extra Ultra Balls are important.

How to Reach the Power Plant

From the Rock Tunnel Pokémon Center, move past the nearby patch of grass and go toward the water. Use Surf to cross it, since this is the only way to reach the Power Plant. It is also a good idea to use a Max Repel before crossing. That helps you avoid wild encounters on the way.

Once you arrive, enter the Power Plant and use another Max Repel if needed. There are several useful items inside, but if the goal is only Zapdos, keep moving forward through the building. The path can feel like a maze if you do not know the route. There are also fake item spots that turn out to be wild Electrode, so be careful as you move deeper inside.

Where to Find Zapdos

Keep following the correct path through the Power Plant, and you will eventually reach Zapdos. Once you see it, save the game right in front of it. This is the most important step if you want to shiny hunt.

After saving, interact with Zapdos to begin the battle. If you only want the normal version, you can try to catch it right away. If you are hunting the shiny version, check the encounter first.

How to Shiny Hunt Zapdos

If Zapdos is not shiny, use the soft reset button combination X + Y + A + B. This resets the game quickly and lets you try again from your save point. In these games, shiny odds are 1 in 8,192, so this hunt can take a long time. You may need many resets before a shiny Zapdos appears.

To make the catch easier, bring a Pokémon with False Swipe so Zapdos can be lowered to 1 HP without being knocked out. A move that causes Sleep or Paralysis also helps a lot. Since Zapdos is hard to catch, these tools can save time and prevent mistakes.
