Resident Evil Village Guide | How To Solve Hall of The Four Puzzle

You need to pass The Hall of the Four Puzzle in Resident Evil 8: Village in order to proceed to Castle Dimitrescu. To solve it, you will need to locate and place four masks—Sorrow, Joy, Pleasure, and Rage—on their respective statues in the Hall of the Four. 

This guide will walk you through each of the mask placements and provide a step-by-step solution to the puzzle.

Mask of Sorrow

This is the first mask you will get in the course of the story, so you shouldn't miss it. You get it after having a confrontation with Lady Dimitrescu in the castle basement. You will receive the Mask of Sorrow automatically after you have killed one of her daughters in the main story. When you pick it up, a cutscene is activated, and you are transported outside to the castle courtyard.

Mask of Joy

To get the Mask of Joy, begin in the Hall of the Four and go upstairs. Turn left at the top and proceed down the path to the Hall of Joy. The mask is here, but be careful because there may be enemies nearby. If Lady Dimitrescu is chasing you at this time, avoid her while navigating through the halls. Once you have the mask, go back to the Hall of the Four to store it safely.

Mask of Pleasure

The Mask of Pleasure is opposite the staircase from the Mask of Joy. Proceed to the right of the Hall of the Four and into the Hall of Pleasure. If you remove the mask, the door behind you closes, so you cannot exit immediately.

In order to exit the room, substitute the Mounted Animal Skull. The object is wall-mounted within the room. To acquire it, go to your inventory and locate the Mounted Animal Skull. Take the skull off the mount. Once you have the skull, place it in the space where the Mask of Pleasure was located. This will unlock the door, and you will be able to exit the room and proceed with your adventure.

Mask of Rage

The Mask of Rage is the most difficult to find, as you must go through the top parts of the castle. To access the attic, first solve a puzzle in the Atelier room. Once you are on the roof, look around until you see a zipline. Taking the zip line will take you directly to the Tower of Rage, where the last mask is at the top. Once you obtain it, return to the Hall of the Four to finish the puzzle.

Solving the Hall of Four Puzzle

Now that you have all four masks, it's time to solve the mystery and reveal the way ahead. Return to the Hall of the Four, and you will find four giant statues with receptacles for masks. The task is to put each mask in its respective receptacle on the subsequent statue.

Each statue is also thematically connected to one of the masks, so it is easy to figure out where each mask must be placed. After all four masks have been correctly placed, the large door in the hallway will open, which will take you to the second half of the game.

Final Notes

After completing the Hall of the Four puzzles, you can exit the main hall and explore further into the castle. But don't expect other challenges to be passed. Lady Dimitrescu is waiting in the shadows, and you will be confronted with her in a cinematic boss battle. Make sure to prepare your weapons, save your resources, and keep your wits with you as you proceed.
