Total Chaos Guide | How To Get The Good Ending

Follow this route to unlock the secret good ending in Total Chaos with minimal spoilers.

Game Guide by Ornstein on  Dec 04, 2025

To unlock the good ending in Total Chaos, you must complete specific tasks in each chapter and avoid a few key mistakes. You need to play carefully, manage Madness, and respect the mysterious Forgotten Ones. Whenever you see Forgotten Ones (the faceless people), do not kill them at any point in this run.

It is also believed that certain Journal Entries and cassette tapes may be required for the ending, so you should pick up important notes and recordings whenever you find them. Each chapter below explains what you need to do, what you must not do, and where you can easily fail the route.

Chapter 2 – Decay: First Cassette Tape Under The Graveyard

In Chapter 2, your main objective for the good ending route is to grab a cassette tape hidden beneath the graveyard. Progress through the level until you reach the graveyard area, then search for boards on the ground that block a hole leading to a secret space.

You need to be careful here. An invisible ghost patrols this area. Watch for movement and sound, and when you spot it, grab the Pistol near the candles. Use the Pistol to kill the ghost so you can move safely.

After the ghost is gone, drop down through the hole behind the boards. At the bottom, you will find the cassette tape needed for this chapter. Pick up the tape to complete your first key task for the good ending route.

Chapter 3 – Forgotten: Fuses And The Secret Boss Exit

In Chapter 3, your goal is to avoid killing the boss at the end of the chapter while using fuses to reach a hidden exit. Do not confuse this boss with the small fight that happens earlier in the SMG Room; that earlier fight does not count as the main boss encounter.

As you progress, you will find three Fuses. Collect and keep all three of these Fuses and make sure you still have them when you reach the final boss arena. Do not leave any behind; if you missed one, backtrack and grab it before continuing.

When you arrive at the boss fight, you must pick up a fourth Fuse in the arena to start the battle properly. Once the fight begins, you need to lure the boss toward the wall that has “They’re gone” written on it, to the right of the prison bars. Damage her to provoke her screams and get her to yell twice while near that wall.

After she yells twice near the wall, the wall will break, revealing a new room. If she breaks a pillar and exposes the monsters inside, shoot those exposed creatures to stun her and keep control of the fight.

When the wall is open, head inside and use the three Fuses you saved to access the secret exit. This lets you leave the fight without killing the boss, which is crucial for the good ending.

Chapter 4 – Storm: Skip The Wall Of Connections And Spare The Forgotten Ones

In Chapter 4, you need to complete two important objectives. You must get past the Wall Of Connections without burning it, and you must avoid killing any Forgotten Ones.

Near the end of the chapter, you will obtain the Oasis Goods Store Key. When you pick up this key, you will be thrown into a Madness chase sequence on the sixth floor of the apartments.

During this entire chase, you must not kill any Forgotten Ones, even if the game or the Radio Voice seems to push you toward violence.

Instead, treat the sequence like a horde train scenario similar to CoD Zombies. Group enemies together, bait them out of chokepoints, and weave around them as you run down the hallway. Your aim is to reach the end of the section without harming them.

Eventually, you will reach a save point. Do not use this Save Station. If you activate it, you will cure Madness, and that will break the route you need. Instead, skip the save and keep going.

After avoiding the save station, you will enter Oasis Goods. In this area, a new Madness Hole will appear. This hole lets you bypass the Wall Of Connections entirely without burning it. Use the Madness Hole path to preserve the good ending conditions.

Chapter 5 – Crossroads: Finish The Chapter While Mad

Chapter 5 is straightforward in concept but difficult in execution. You must complete the entire chapter while under Madness.

At a certain point, you will find High Dose Medication. Once you take High Dose Medication, you can no longer ground yourself using Record Players. That means you cannot save at records for the rest of the chapter. From this point on, every mistake is permanent until you finish the level.

It is unconfirmed, but you may need to complete the Revolver section immediately after taking the pills. To stay safe, make sure you grab the Revolver and progress through that section right away while still affected by Madness. Stay alert and try not to waste resources here.

Be very careful when moving near Record Players after this point. You do not want to accidentally interact with a Record Player while picking up nearby items, as this could ground you and disrupt the route. Move slowly and line up your interactions so you only pick up what you intend to.

It is also unconfirmed but recommended that you answer the three ringing Phones that you encounter during the chapter. The calls are hard to miss because they ring loudly. To be safe for the good ending, answer each Phone as you find it while continuing to stay mad and unsaved through the entire level.

Chapter 6 – Regression: Spare The Tree Lurker

In Chapter 6, you must avoid killing the Tree Lurker. This entire section is built around that condition.

Later in the level, the Radio Voice will instruct you to turn several valves. These valves are tied to the Tree Lurker, and turning them will eventually kill it. To protect the creature and keep the good ending path open, you must ignore these instructions.

Run past every Hydro Valve you see and do not turn any of them. Keep your focus on moving forward instead of obeying the Radio Voice. You only want to touch one specific Valve in the entire sequence.

Eventually, you will reach Pump Control and repair a pipe so you can progress. After that repair, you are allowed to turn the final Valve at Pump Control to leave the area. That valve is safe to use and is required to continue the game.

If you have done this correctly and left all the earlier Hydro Valves alone, the Radio Voice will sound displeased. That reaction is a good sign and shows that the Tree Lurker has been spared.

Chapter 7 – Madness: Hidden Cassette In The Catacombs

In Chapter 7, your goal for the route is to listen to a hidden cassette tape in the catacombs. There is currently no achievement tied to this step, but it is still important for the ending.

Near the end of the catacombs, you will come to what appears to be the final area. The Radio Voice will start speaking to you again here and will try to direct your actions. To stay on the route, ignore these instructions and refuse to pull the Lever in front of you.

Instead of following the guidance, head deeper into the darkness past the supposed end. The path you must follow looks similar to the tunnels you just went through. Flares on the ground will guide you; these are usually near wall graffiti and candles. You will need to rely on these Flares to see where you are going.

If you stay in darkness for too long without a Flare, you will die quickly, so be ready to use a new Flare the moment the old one goes out. Move from marker to marker, following the route through the catacombs.

At the end of this hidden path, you will find a Journal Entry on a chair. This is effectively a cassette style recording. Interact with it and listen to it completely. After that, you can head to the nearby Elevator and finish the level normally.

Chapter 8 – Chaos: Do Not Harm Any Forgotten Ones

In Chapter 8, you must complete the entire chapter without killing any Forgotten Ones. This condition is strict, so treat every faceless figure with caution.

Early in the chapter, you will encounter Forgotten Ones blocking a doorway. The Radio Voice will prompt you to kill them to clear the way. Do not follow that order. Instead, look around for another path and travel down the alternate route that circumvents them.

Keep moving through this alternate path until you eventually come up behind the group of Forgotten Ones. You will find a Record Player in this area. There is also a cassette located near it. Pick up this cassette to be safe for the route, even if its exact requirement is not fully confirmed.

Make sure you still do not attack the Forgotten Ones here. Bypass them completely and proceed through the chapter without harming any of them, all the way to the end.

Chapter 9 – Final Chapter: Finish The Game And Confirm The Route

If you have completed every requirement up to this point—saved the bosses and monsters when needed, avoided killing Forgotten Ones, skipped the burns, stayed mad where required, and interacted with all important tapes and calls—you now only need to finish the game.

In the final fight, you will know things went correctly if no Forgotten Ones spawn in the arena. Their absence is the sign that all the hidden flags were set properly during the earlier chapters. From here, just survive the encounter and complete the ending sequence to secure the good ending for Total Chaos.
