Total Chaos Guide | Good Ending Walkthrough Guide

Here's an easy guide on how to reach the true ending step by step.

This guide describes how to complete certain steps in each chapter to unlock the happy ending. Total Chaos determines the endings reached through encounters with certain species, environmental responses, and your decisions.

The narrator purposefully gives many false directions, and even seemingly little choices can have a big impact on how the narrative ends.

Chapter 2 (Decay)

Head down into the graveyard. The narrator will question the direction, but continue forward. A monster waits in this area; its position can be revealed by throwing bricks, and a single pistol shot is enough to defeat it.

Continue traveling to the lower-left side of the graveyard until wooden planks appear over a hole. Break the planks, drop down, and follow the path until a cassette tape is found. Listen to it to progress.

Chapter 3 (Forgotten)

After the hide-and-seek sequence, gather the three fuses needed to activate the nearby lever. Pulling the lever opens a gate, but do not go through it yet. Instead, remove the fuses again; they are important for a later step.

Next, face the Protector without killing it. Lure it toward the pillar marked “they’re gone.” Deal enough damage to trigger its area blast, which will break the wall behind the pillar. This must be done twice to create an opening. Avoid killing the Protector at all costs during this section.

Move through the opening and use the fuses again to power another lever and open a new door. Pick the fuses back up afterward, as they remain useful later in the game.

Chapter 4 (Storm)

The narrator encourages burning the wall of connectors, but the correct choice is the opposite. Continue forward until reaching the area full of Forgotten Ones. Do not harm them. Lure them into a group and slip past when possible.

A grounding save point appears ahead—ignore it completely. Grounding here will lock the good ending path. Instead, open the nearby door and enter the store. Inside, a hidden wall appears only while in madness. If grounding is used, this wall will not appear, and progression becomes impossible without burning the connectors.

After a tunnel sequence, a room with a record player appears. Grounding here is allowed. This grants powerful armor and opens the way beyond the connectors. The narrator’s frustration confirms that the correct path is being followed.

Chapter 5 (Crossroads)

This chapter must be completed without grounding. The entire level is played in madness, making it one of the hardest sections. Many believe answering all four phone calls helps secure the good ending, so each one should be answered.

Their locations are simple: near the first save point, after the elevator on the way to the wheel key, inside the room with three spider enemies, and beside the puzzle inside the library.

Chapter 6 (Regression)

Avoid opening all valves except the final one that must be closed to activate the pumps. The narrator will repeatedly complain about valves being missed, confirming that progress is correct.

A tunnel maze follows. Some believe it must be crossed in darkness using flares to avoid instant death from a monster, but this part seems inconsistent. Progress as far as possible. If completing the tunnel becomes impossible, pulling the switch and advancing normally still seems to allow the good ending.

Final Chapter (Chaos)

Forgotten Ones should not be killed throughout this chapter. Move around them when possible. During the final boss fight, some Forgotten Ones may die, but this does not appear to block the good ending. Only unavoidable combat occurs here.
