There’s some big news for anime and Star Wars fans out there. Studio Ghibli, the acclaimed anime studio behind tons of classics, has seemingly announced a collaboration with LucasFilm. However, this announcement has been made very cryptically and without any explanation whatsoever.

Studio Ghibli tweeted out a short video with the LucasFilm logo. That’s it. That’s all they did. A simple logo and there’s no text attached to the video either. This is about as mysterious as they come. There’s no word from LucasFilm or Disney about it either. This means that we have been left to sit and wonder about what exactly the acclaimed anime studio could be planning.

For those somehow unfamiliar with Studio Ghibli, they are the anime studio responsible for classics like Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, and many more. The co-founder of the studio, Hayao Miyazaki, is probably the most famous of those at the company, and his work on films like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke would be the perfect thing for a possible Star Wars anime adaptation from the studio.

At present, there can be little more than speculation about what this means in exact terms, as none of those involved have made any detailed statements, and if this is still in the early days, then it could be months before we learn anything definite. However, that should not reduce anyone’s excitement, because Studio Ghibli always delivers quality work. If there’s one anime studio that could do the Star Wars universe justice, you can’t go wrong with the fine folk over at Studio Ghibli.

So, allow yourself to get excited for the team-up of the century, but maybe temper your expectations with regards to how long it will take to get our hands on whatever this thing turns out to be. We could be in for a long wait.
