Atari to Acquire Digital Eclipse and Bring Back Classic Titles
The latest acquisition of one of the game giants, Atari, might revive the good old times with a nice, fresh coat of paint on top.

Since the 1970s, Atari has been a great contributor to the gaming market, let it be a game developer, a publisher, or even a console creator. Since the fall of Atari around the early 90s, the company has been seeking a revival of a few elements of their peak, such as Atari 2600 and new games to publish. The relevancy of their console lineup might have lost its charm due to how outdated it is, but Atari is still encouraging other game developers who wish to bring the classics to the current generation.
One such developer was Nightdive Studios, who renewed classics like System Shock, Blood, Doom 64, the Turok franchise, and Power Slave. Atari acquired the studio due to their polished and good quality renewal of old FPS and games that are deemed as cult classics. After getting Nightdive under their roof in May of 2023, Atari is now getting ready to acquire another studio that specializes in remaking classic titles from the 90s: Digital Eclipse. Digital Eclipse is known for the huge remakes and remasters of bundles like SNK, Disney, and Blizzard Collections. Not to mention that America-based studio has been developing games since the mid-90s, making them a trustworthy crew.
Atari’s CEO, Wade Rosen, stated that the unison between Nightdive and Digital Eclipse creates the new DNA of Atari, which is to bring beloved titles back with emphasis on their qualities, matching today’s standard. Digital Eclipse has also stated the acquisition is a good move on both ends. Digital Eclipse, despite now being under Atari’s management, will still continue creating their own IPs without getting interrupted by Atari, which is a very rare thing to see. Usually, publishers order developers to halt or entirely stop a project in order to crunch over another unimportant project, but it seems like Atari is fine with Digital Eclipse’s schedule for developing their own titles.
Right now Digital Eclipse does not have a proper set goal for Atari’s own program as they are about to be acquired within a few days. What we know is that Atari might just give them a set of games they need to be remastering and remaking in the future, which, we have to be real, that won’t hurt anyone. In fact, nowadays people are craving nostalgia by playing the games from their childhood, so Atari might just draw lots of people’s attention in a few month's time.
