EA Online Passes Discontinued
For new titles only
News by Grayshadow on May 16, 2013
EA has announced that they will discontinue it's online pass program for all new titles in an email to Gamesbeat. "EA senior director of corporate communications, John Reseburg, told Gamesbeat that "Yes we're disontinuing Online Pass" and "Non of our new EA titles will include that feature."
A number of popular EA games used the online pass, which was a one-time code to allow the user to access online content for a specific title, such as Battlefield 3, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and NFL Madden to encourage consumers to purchase games new or pay extra for the online pass. “Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format,” Reseburg said. “We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
Reseburg said that "We're still committed to creating content and services that enhance the game experience well beyond the day you first start playing". I'm glad these are gone but I wonder what EA will introduce to compete with the used game market now?
