If you’ve finished the campaign and the story in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you might be wondering how to start New Game Plus. After the credits roll and everything wraps up, you’ll find yourself back on the main screen. This part can be confusing because the game doesn’t really explain what to do next.

Don’t go to “New Game.” If you choose that option, you’ll just be starting a completely fresh game from the beginning. Instead, you need to click “Continue” and select your existing save file.

Returning to Lumière

Once your game loads, you’ll be brought back to the moment right before the final boss fight, just before the end of the game. This takes place in Lumière, the last area you explore. You’ll see all your characters are still there, including Verso and Maelle, so there’s no need to worry—they’re all accounted for.

You need to interact with the expedition flag in the area. This flag now includes a new option: “New Game Plus.”

Once selected, you’ll be given a choice—either continue exploring the world as it is or begin New Game Plus.

What Carries Over

When you start NG+, you keep a significant amount of your progress. All your character progression remains intact. All party members are still available. You keep all of your Pictos, all Luminas, all weapons, all team setups, all outfits and hairstyles, all unlocked skills, and all Gradient skills.

You’ll be able to start the new cycle with your full power and customization options preserved. This gives you a great edge going into the much harder version of the game.

What Gets Reset

Certain things do get reset, however. Side quest progress and quest items are removed. You lose your music records and expedition journals. Lost Gestrals are also reset. Paint Spikes are reset. Paint breakability and relationship levels with the characters are wiped clean.

So, while your combat readiness is fully preserved, your story and collection elements are refreshed for a new run.

What Changes in NG+

Enemies become significantly tougher. They will have much higher HP, better defenses, and greater speed. It’s a serious challenge, so make sure you’re prepared before jumping in. Think of NG+ as a way to test your builds and skills in more intense fights with fewer safety nets.

That’s everything you need to know to start New Game Plus in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. It might feel unclear at first, but once you find that flag and see the new option, it all clicks into place. Have fun, and good luck in NG+. If you loved the main game, this tougher version will absolutely be worth your time.
