343 Industries Might Have A New Halo Game In The Works

A few employee profiles seem to hint at a possible new Halo game that has been in development for some time now.

A new upcoming Halo game is becoming more and more likely with each passing new rumor and now it would seem that thanks to some employee profiles for 343 Industries, it is very likely there is a new Halo game in the works. This is especially likely as after the less than desirable release of Halo Infinite in 2020, there has been quite a few concerns about the direction the series was headed. Luckily, there's plenty of Halo content coming in 2024.

To say things have been rocky for Halo, is quite the understatement. Since the lukewarm reception of Halo Infinite, Microsoft has decided to significantly downsize the 343 Industries Team. Interestingly, the Halo Infinite roadmap has not changed at all and the team, though smaller, still seems to be on track to releasing the previously promised content. While most of the developer’s focus has been on maintaining the live service elements of Halo Infinite, with consistent releases of content released all throughout 2023, the studio does seem to have something else Halo related in the works, and we're not talking about the Paramount+ Halo show.

Rumors of another Halo game project being in works recently resurged after Twitter user, IdleSloth84_, shared some screenshots of former 343 Industries Art Director, Justin Dinges, which say that he worked on “Halo's next unannounced release” which shows that his involvement in the project has been since April 2022. While this is compelling, it isn't the only LinkedIn profile that mentions the project, the profile for the studio's Senior Character Systems Designer, Ian Schultz, says “building player systems and assets in Unreal Engine 5”. While there is no mention of Halo, the use of Unreal Engine 5 does line up with Justin Dinges and another Halo rumor.

This rumor surfaced just a month after the studio revealed that there will be no new single player content added to Halo Infinite. While this could mean focus is being shifted more towards the live service, it could also indicate that focus is instead being put on new yet to be announced project.
